B R E A K I N G --The Council of Presidents of the National Pan-Hellenic Council stands behind the provisions in the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. The murder of George Floyd and the killings of unarmed individuals since serve as a reminder of the urgent need to not only pass legislation to hold police accountable, but to also change the culture of law enforcement for good, while building trust between law enforcement and the Black community. The House has already p...assed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. Now, we are anxiously awaiting to see the Senate take action and send policing reform legislation to President Biden’s desk to sign it into law. Representing over 5 million college educated, predominantly African American voters, there are three areas for which our respective organizations intend to advocate to create opportunities for true police reform: 1) Accountability, 2) Transparency, and 3) Policing Practices. The NAACP Legal Defense Fund recently announced Bro. Maydrian Strozier-Lowe ('19 ) amongst the inaugural 10-person cohort of the Marshall Motley-Scholars Program (MMSP). Launched in January 2021, LDF’s groundbreaking commitment in the MMSP will endow the South with the next generation of civil rights lawyers trained to provide legal advocacy of unparalleled excellence. Scholars pledge to devote the rst eight years of their career to practicing civil rights law in the South... Bro Maydrian Strozier-Lowe is a St. Louis, Missouri, native. While attending Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU), Maydrian studied the inner workings of government to better prepare himself for a career in law. His enthusiasm for political involvement and voting rights activism grew after watching his parents encounter a legal system rife with inequities and lawyers who worked against their interests. Maydrian’s passion comes from knowing that a lawyer dedicated to another’s life can enact tremendous change. Maydrian simply believes that he is obligated to serve others. While attending PVAMU, he served as the chief of sta for the Student Government Association, as well as President of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Rho Theta Chapter. He currently serves as a legislative assistant in the Texas House of Representatives for state representative Ron Reynolds. He works specically on issues that disenfranchise Black people, including the right to vote, among other inequalities impacting the Black community. In association with the Political Science Posse at PVAMU, he organized three student marches that protested attempts by Waller County to discount and disenfranchise the student vote; LDF has led a lawsuit against Waller County on behalf PVAMU students. Maydrian aims to achieve substantial change for Black people in the South. He boldly promotes the idea of investing today for generations to come, as many once did for him. Congrats Bro. Maydrian!!!!

Happy 107th Founders Day to the Men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Members of the Divine 9 community have a long history of working with each other. Pictured here are Civil Rights legends A. Philip Randolph (#PhiBetaSigma) and Bayard Rustin (#OmegaPsiPhi). Featured on the cover of Life magazine standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial (September 6, 1963), Randolph and (Bro.) Rustin made an indefatigable team of seasoned civil rights activists that enabled Dr. King’s now ...famous speech to be remembered so vividly fifty eight years later. At the time of the March, most Americans had viewed these two men as the real stars of the occasion. The 1963 March for Jobs and Freedom was actually the realization of their long-time dream to have a dramatic and peaceful demonstration that emphasized the need of all black Americans for economic opportunities and jobs, as well as the more elusive ideal of freedom. Happy 110th Founders Day to the Men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Members of the Divine 9 community have a long history of working with each other. Pictured here are Tennis Great Arthur Ashe (#KappaAlphaPsi) and Dr. Robert "Whirlwind" Johnson (#OmegaPsiPhi) Almost a half-century ago, Ashe became the first black player to be ranked No. 1 by the United States Lawn Tennis Association (USLTA) on Dec. 12, 1968. That same year Ashe was the first black player to represent the ...United States in the Davis Cup. There were times when I asked myself whether I was being principled or simply a coward I was wrapped in the cocoon of tennis early in life, mainly by blacks like my most powerful mentor Dr. Robert Walter Johnson of Lynchburg, Virginia, Ashe once said. They insisted that I be unfailingly polite on the court, unfalteringly calm and detached, so that whites could never accuse me of meanness. I learned well. I look at photographs of the skinny, frail, little black boy that I was in the early 1950s, and I see that I was my tennis racket and my tennis racket was me. It was my rod and my staff.
