Have you had a chance to meet the newest member of the PAWS Atlanta team? Chris joined the crew in December as a part-time Animal Care Specialist and recently was promoted to full-time. He makes it a point to get to know each of the dogs in our animal admission area and goes the extra mile to give them lots of love and attention (and they adore him for it!). He is constantly working hard and never passes the donation area without checking the contactless bin and bringing thes...e much-needed supplies to the building. He’s always pitching in and we’re absolutely thrilled he decided to join the squad. We miss seeing the gang every day and thought we'd check in to see how everyone is doing and what we can do to help out. "It's difficult to put into words how fortunate I feel to be a part of this amazing team. I am so grateful I was given an opportunity to join the PAWS family. It is a real breath of fresh air to be able to go to work, and know that what you are doing really matters. To have real purpose and fulfillment in my work is invaluable. The best part of my days at PAWS is arriving in the morning and seeing the new puppy arrivals, and getting to snuggle them and receive all their puppy kisses. I've never really been a morning person, but ever since I began my tenor at PAWS, I've actually looked forward to mornings, because that means I get to go in and see all of my fur baby friends. There really isn't a better feeling." Q: "What's our biggest need right now?" A: "The picnic tables we have at the shelter are getting a bit precarious to sit on and I’m always nervous to put too much weight down. Picnic tables provide our adopters and fosters with the space to get to know their new best friend. They also allow volunteers and staff members to take breaks with our pups along our nature trails to give treats and plenty of scratches. This one-on-one time is crucial to the psychological health of our animals and helps keep them calm in what can be a stressful environment. Four new picnic tables would be a huge help! Saturday the 27th we will be at Fire Maker Brewing Company. Adoptable dogs will be there (those will be announced closer to the event), foster families will be there to tell you about their foster pets, we will be selling PAWS Atlanta merch, and Fire Maker will be selling the drinks! We have been the recipients of Fire Maker’s giving tap for the month of January and February. The giving tap is a certain beer chosen and a portion of the proceeds of that beer goes to a charity ...during their time with the giving tap. The beer for us is Chattahooch-Tea. The staff at Fire Maker and PAWS thought this event would be a good way to round things up for our time with the giving tap. Come out, bring your friends, drink some beer, raise some funds, and have a great time! When we think about Anita Kumar - we get a little sentimental and may or may not start singing Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler. Anita once again helped us fly higher than an eagle (ahem - told ya we get sappy) by having our back and sponsoring our first-ever #WalkforthePAWS. Anita adopted her three adorable chihuahua children from PAWS (Diesel, Vinny - picture here, and Millie) volunteers for everything, has served on our Board of Directors since 2019, previously served... as the Chair of our Advisory Council, serves on our Walk for the PAWS host committee, has chaired and serves on our Party for the PAWS host committee, attends every PAWS Atlanta benefit, sponsors, donates, organizes fundraisers, organizes newspaper drives in her neighborhood, the list goes on and on. Yay! Our 14th place calendar winners, Yogi and Lana, live their Best Lives by napping, snuggling, hiking, swimming, and getting love! Yogi is a PAWS alum and 2-time cancer survivor, and Lana is a rescue dog who went on an epic road trip from Georgia to California. These two good girls raised over $800 for our shelter pets.
