The Covington Police Department held its Annual Awards Ceremony last night recognizing several Officers for their achievements in 2020: Officer of the Year, Travis Pierce; Rookie of the Year, Kinsley Nichols; Employee of the Year Support Services, Mark Jones; Employee of the Year Patrol Division, Brian Shockley; Employee of the Year C.I.D, Travis Pierce; Meritorious Service Awards, Jeff Bruno and Kevin Thompson; Firearms Awards, Stacey Cotton, Wendell Wagstaff, Allan Seebaran, Gene Nuqui, Starr Smith, Pokey Daniels. Congratulations to all the recipients and thank you to all that serve the citizens of Covington, Georgia.

On December 1, around 8pm, the male pictured below entered the Physician’s Pavilion on Hospital Dr and forced his way into several locked suites and offices. It is unclear if any items were stolen from the offices at this time. If you can identify this male, please contact Det. Travis Pierce.

The Covington Police Department is looking to hire Police Officers who want to make a difference in their community! On December 2, 2020, the male pictured below stole approximately $1,000 worth of tools from Home Depot. The male left the store without paying and began to load the stolen items into his vehicle. When the male realized he dropped his keys, he unloaded his car back into the buggy and left the scene on foot. The vehicle was stolen out of Dekalb County and was recovered at Home Depot.

A Kroger customer after checking out at the self-checkout register, accidentally left $80.00 in the cash dispenser when he withdrew the cash from his debit card. The suspect pictured in the white t-shirt, gray pants and orange cap was seen on surveillance cameras taking the money and walking away with it after checking out. If anyone recognizes the male please notify Sgt. Allan Seebaran, 678-625-5584.

The Covington Police Department visited with the Covington FUMC Preschool today to give their students an early trick-or-treat. Officers received many big smiles from the students.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 the annual Scare on the Square event will not take place this year. We truly love participating in this event and hopefully we'll be back next year.

Sgt. Vic Partee was awarded today by Chief Stacey Cotton, his 35 year commemorative badge for 35 years of service to the Covington Police Department. Employees of the Quarter for the 4th Quarter are as follows: Officer Matt Holbrook for Patrol, Detective Jeff Bruno for CID, and Cheryl Vaughn for Support Services.

We had a Great kickoff this past weekend joining forces with the newly created Faith & Blue organization. Faith and Blue is a National organization that will be organizing Faith & Blue Weekends. It’s based on the premise that strong communities are built on mutual respect and understanding. Law enforcement and faith institutions are key pillars of each community, and when they work together, neighborhoods thrive. Senior Evidence Technician Herrion Ervin ends his carrer with The C.P.D. with his final radio call.

The Covington Police Department would like to thank Retired U.S. Airforce Veteran Herrion Ervin, a 19-year Veteran with The Covington Police Department, for his service to the citizens of Covington. Herrion was a dedicated professional, serving as our Senior Evidence Technician and Chairman of our Awards Committee. His selfless, servant’s spirit will be missed. Happy Retirement #289!
