As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we want to highlight the faculty and staff who have helped make BMA successful! Meet Peabody Awards Collection Archivist, ...Mary Miller! "My career at UGA began in February, 1996 at the Science Library. I moved to Brown Media one year later. I was drawn to library work because I love books, so there's some irony in the fact that I've spent the past twenty-three years in a media archives, but I've learned to love and value our collections. My first project with BMA involved cataloging television programs from the Peabody Awards Collection that looked at African-American life and history in the 1950's- 1970's. Even though I was a history major in college, my work with Peabody was my lesson in civil rights history. Watching those news stories was a transformative experience, and it has informed everything I've done since then. Whether I'm leading 11th grade field trips, planning screenings for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, working with Special Collections Teaching Fellows to develop archives-centered classes, or determining the most appropriate terminology and level of description for cataloging a media collection, I'm always thinking about the power of historic recorded media to educate."
