We made considerable progress today to reopen roadways closed due to downed trees and power lines. While Hurricane/TS Zeta was quick in its visit to our area, it was also extremely powerful, toppling more than 250 trees, many of those taking power and utility lines with them. Our Public Works crews have worked 24/7 since Thursday to remove, repair, and restore. Currently, there are 13 streets with downed trees in power lines, with restoration underway by Georgia Power. Ge...orgia Power is forecasting that it hopes to have power restored in those areas by midnight. Our field superintendents will continue to monitor these recovery activities. We are also tracking an additional ten locations where utilities other than Georgia Power have restoration work needed (Comcast, ATT etc). Roadways in these areas are open to traffic, with protective cones and barriers in place where needed. A reminder that the best way to report trees and/or power lines down is to either call 9-1-1 or our 24/7 Call Center at 770.730.5600. The call/report is logged, and we have a system in place to get the information quickly to emergency response teams. As we begin November (and don't forget the time change), we are still clearing from our record-breaking Oct Tropical Storm. Zeta set a record as the 11th named hurricane for the season. While a quickly moving storm, its effects were seriously impactful. More than 250 trees landed on roadways, blocking intersections and causing damage, and many of those trees took power lines with them. As comparison, the day after Irma came through Sandy Springs in 2017, we reported 33 ro...adways blocked by downed streets - and that was significant. Georgia Power crews are working in the city, and our Public Works crews have worked 24/7 since Thursday to clear areas as fast as possible, with new reports of fallen trees lasting through Saturday. We know if you have been without power, it is difficult to practice patience. We appreciate your understanding as all crews work to make the needed repairs. While we may not want to add another hour to 2020, it IS time we turn our clocks back.

Zeta Update: Crews continue to work to clear the MANY downed trees and power lines around the city. The map shows the sites we were working on early this morning. Since then, we've cleared many locations - but have also added as additional trees taking power lines have added to our numbers. More than 150 trees are no longer calling Sandy Springs home due to Zeta. Georgia Power has mobilized in areas throughout the city. Work is happening. We appreciate your patience.

As we start our All Hallows Eve day, our Public Works crews continue their efforts to clear roadways. We're making a lot of progress, but there are still intersections that are blocked by trees and powerlines. Peachtree Dunwoody at Starlight is the latest added to the list. We'll post the list shortly. When you're out today, please be situationally aware.
