Born in 1900 to a lawyer and a suffragist, Margaret Mitchell was an avid reader who started writing stories at a young age. In adulthood, she became a reporter for "The Atlanta Journal", where she wrote about a variety topics, ranging from fashion to war. After an ankle injury made her leave her reporting job and the purchase of a Remington Port...able No. 3 typewriter by her husband, John Marsh, Margaret began writing her most notable work, the classic southern tale: "Gone with the Wind". Margaret ended up using her success to volunteer for the American Red Cross during World War II, ultimately sponsoring two light cruisers named after her favorite city.
