UNIVERSAL LOVE Before I am born, before I am 5 years old, 49 years old, 84 years old, before I die Before I am a student, before I am a teacher, before I am an ...artist, a shopkeeper, a doctor, a monk, a priest, a farmer, a scientist, a spiritual seeker Before I am a Christian or a Buddhist Before I am good or bad, right or wrong Before I am a success or a failure Before I am enlightened or unenlightened Before I am a man or a woman Before I am this body or that body Before I am anybody Before I am "the one who knows" Before I am this or that Before I am something Before I am anything I am. This no-thing that allows every-thing This wide open space, Unlimited, incomprehensible, In which every thought, sensation, feeling, arises and subsides, Like waves in the ocean, Ever-present, Unchanging. I Am. Being. Life itself. This mystery. Creation, destruction. Like a cloudburst in the vastness... I am born. Absolute is relative. Time. Space. Expansion. Contraction. I breathe in and out. I suckle my mother's breast. I am 5 years old, 49 years old, 84 years old. I grow and learn. I am a student, teacher, artist, dancer, shopkeeper, doctor, mystic, monk, priest, farmer, scientist, adventurer, murderer, thief. I am a man. I am a woman. I am gay, straight, black, white, rich and poor. I am every mother, every father, every son, every daughter. I am a slave in ancient Rome. I am a child on the streets of Calcutta. I am the dying sun. The birth of a star. I cannot ever be something without being nothing at all. I cannot be nothing without being all there is. This is crucifixion and resurrection. This is love beyond understanding. This is the heartbeat of the cosmos. I am That. - Jeff Foster

When I, Steve McVey, write about "the love of my life," everybody knows who I mean. When I write about "the best grandchildren anywhere," everybody knows who I ...mean. When I write about "the four most wonderful children a man could want," everybody knows who I mean. But when I write about "Universal Love" or "the Field of Favor" or "the Kingdom of Kindness," or "The Indwelling Teacher" or countless other descriptive phrases, I'm baffled when people ask me if I'm talking about the New Age Movement or Buddhism of some other sectarian view. (Some even feel compelled to help me by clarifying for others what I meant to say.) It makes me wonder, do they even know God? Or do they think they're smarter than everybody else who doesn't know Him and that He is impotent to make Himself known to them if I don't use the religious words some religionists prefer? When Jesus referred to the Spirit as "the Comforter," the disciples didn't seem to worry that somebody might get mixed up about what He meant. When the Bible refers to "the Lion of Judah," the writer apparently didn't think it would confuse people or cause them to worship animals. "The Rose of Sharon" is more than a flower and the biblical writer didn't think a new cult of holy horticulturalists would arise from it. Descriptive phrases to unpack the beauty of God are helpful, especially to those for whom church-talk has become impotent and hollow. Just as God reveals Himself in nature, He reveals Himself in adjectives. So, if you see the subtle hints of "a religious spirit" still in you, cast it out. Then chill out. Learning to see Divine Beauty (see what I did there?) in a language you may not hear in church isn't dangerous. It's good. It is the grace walk experience,

Many who grew up in church can hear God when He speaks the language of faith but for those who don't speak that language, don't worry about it. God speaks the l...anguage of art, science, math, nature, and a thousand other dialects. Open your heart, eyes and ears and it may surprise you where you hear His voice. A multilingual God and an open mind. That is the grace walk experience. See more

Early believers in Jesus Christ were accused of being atheists. They were criticized for the absence of religion in their lives. They had no shrines or temples,... no altars or images, and no sacrificial rites or priesthood. They stood in stark contrast to the many religions of the Roman world. Their focus was on real relationships, not religious rituals. Because they refused to accept the idea of an angry, judgmental god like the religions of their day embraced, they were called atheists. I used to believe in an angry god. Then I became an atheist to that god. I became an atheist because that god isn't real. He doesn't exist. The True God isn't angry with us but loves us no matter what. He is for you, even in your darkest moments. During our worst behavior, He loves us. In our unbelief, He still loves us. When we walk away from Him, He quietly goes with us. That's the Real God. Become an atheist toward any other idea of god. God is love. To experience that is to rise above religion and embrace Reality. That is the way into the life we've been created to know. That is the grace walk experience.
