Here is a common failure we see for furnace systems that are located in attic spaces, and is one you could easily repair yourself after a quick trip to the hardware store. What you are seeing is the back side of a common light switch that are used as the Master Service Switch for furnaces. Because of the temperature extremes in attics the plastic becomes brittle over time and will crack and split on those switches where the wires were pushed-in...rather than wrapped around the terminal and tightened. When this happens the power is completely cut off and your entire system becomes disabled...no cool, no heat...no good!. We hope this was helpful to you. Have a great day!

I know I have mentioned it on a couple of different posts in the past but this time I'm offering proof! Keep those pesky ants away from your outdoor unit. Just the other day we had a "no cool" call from a customer and what did we find?...ants in the contactor. In this case the contact points were so badly damaged we had to replace the contactor.
