Some of the best advice you will hear all day. Enjoy!
A continuous set of loud beepsbeep, beep, beepmeans smoke or carbon monoxide is present in your home. Get out and stay out! Call 9-1-1 from outside. For the best protection, use combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms that are interconnected throughout the home. These can be installed by a qualified electrician so that when one sounds, they all sound. This ensures you can hear the alarm no matter where in your home the alarm originates. It’s important to learn the different sounds of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. A single chirp every 30 or 60 seconds means the battery is low and must be changed. Chirping that continues after changing the battery means the alarm is at the end of its life and the unit must be replaced.
Here are some very important considerations for driving we should all keep in mind after the large amount of rain we have experienced lately.
Teachers, parents, and all other fire safety educators... Check out this great board of ideas to teach and educate about fire safety this Fire Prevention Week. You will find all sorts of fun and educational opportunities to impart fire safety knowledge to our youth.

Take a look at this video from Athens-Clarke County, GA Unified Government that highlights many of the initiatives that took place in several departments throughout the county last year. This particular video highlights some of the things that occurred in spring and early summer. Stay until the end to see our department featured. We would like to acknowledge Barrett's Towing for their continuous support of our department by donating wrecked cars for use in vehicle extrication training. Their drivers also take the time to arrange cars to facilitate realistic crash scenes to help us have situational based training. Many of the things that happen for the benefit of our community happen behind the scenes. Be sure to check out this video to make yourself aware of them.
Here you see pictures taken this morning of Tanker 1 in action. This truck has the capability of pump and roll operations to extinguish fires while on the go. It also has a 1,500 gallon on board water tank. And the 4x4 operation allows it to tackle almost any terrain. It’s a great resource to have when the situation dictates. This truck operates out of Fire Station 6 on Athena Drive.
While we all love the holidays, it’s important to know your tree’s expiration date! Fresh cut trees, even if watered daily, will dry out in about four weeks. Ti...me to get rid that tree and look forward to 2021! Make fire safety your New Year's resolution: - make sure you have working smoke alarms inside/outside sleeping rooms on every level of the home including the basement, - create and practice a fire escape plan with everyone in the home, - teach your friends and family the importance of closing doors and always #CloseBeforeYouDoze!
Another great example of how closing bedroom doors before going to sleep at night can save lives. Please help us share the message, Close Before you Doze. For more information, visit https://closeyourdoor.org/

With any possibility of severe weather, these are important tips to remember.
Governor Brian Kemp, we appreciate the honor of your visit and your continued support of our firefighters. In fact, we can’t fully express the gratitude that we have for all of our supporters within our community. Be safe and enjoy your weekend.

Crews have been dispatched to a structure fire in the area of 700 Fourth Street. Please avoid the area as crews work to extinguish the fire.
We would like to thank the Georgia Army National Guard Company C 1-106 Army Air Assault Helicopter Battalion and our friends at the Athens Ben Epps Airport for allowing us to participate in a helicopter crash rescue drill this afternoon. It was exciting to have an Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter and its highly trained crew to simulate an emergency situation that our crews can now be more prepared for. This was an excellent opportunity that we are grateful for and thanks to all that made it possible.
Many of the house fires in our area start in the kitchen. And many are the result of people falling asleep while things are cooking. Don’t cook when tired. And never leave food unattended while cooking.
We would like to thank Alexis Seward and the members of the UGA Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi for dropping off 200 care packages filled with snacks and handwritten letters of appreciation for our employees. This group is an Accounting Honor Society with a strong commitment to service. We appreciate their efforts to give back and make a strong impact on the community. And we are grateful for their time and support.
We send our condolences to the Camilla Fire Department as they try to deal with the loss of Captain Keith Obrian Williams. Captain Williams was 54-years-old and a lifelong resident of Camilla. He served the Camilla Fire Department for over 32 years. We know this loss hits the community, the Camilla Fire Department, and the family of Captain Williams hard right now. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
Sometimes you just have to make your own rainbow. Have a great week and stay safe!
It's #NationalTeenDriverSafetyWeek. Once your teen is ready to drive, it's time to discuss rules and expectations. That is the perfect time to sign a New Driver... Deal: https://bit.ly/nscnewdriverdealupdate A written document - a Parent-Teen Agreement - is the best way to ensure rules are understood and followed. #KeepEachOtherSafe
