The Chinese Delegation stopped by today and met with our Co-Founder & C.S.O, Mark Bouzyk, and our Vice President of Operations, Laura Stowers. They received a tour of our facility, met some of our staff, and heard about some of the exciting things going on here at AKESOgen.

Our Vice President of Project Management, Lauren McGoldrick, and our Laboratory Process Manager, Helmie Teketay, visited Atlanta’s Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy yesterday to talk about how we are all connected through Living DNA’s genealogy test results. This is the first school in the United States to be tested by Living DNA and our very own AKESOgen Laboratory as an educational project. Atlanta’s Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy has... given Living DNA tests to students in order to tackle the common misconceptions around race. Around 20 students at the school, aged between 12 and 13 took the test and received a one-to-one analysis of their ancestry in class yesterday. The project’s goal is to help children understand more about their own history and how they connect to others around the world. As issues surrounding race and immigration have risen over the past few years, children are hearing confusing messages and, as a result, can feel very isolated from others because they don’t feel they are the same as them. The Living DNA results will show the student, where their ancestors lived from among 80 global countries and sub-regions their ancestors once lived. Upon learning their results, the children will see that they are not so different from one another after all. In a continuous effort to become a culturally responsive environment, this learning opportunity is part of CSKYWLA’s project-based learning unit where students explore genetics and diversity. We are absolutely delighted to partner with Living DNA for this educational project and help future generations really see how connected we all are through genealogy tests.
