Every year I try to say something about concussion injuries in high school sports. Let me draw your attention to this chart from 2007. We tend to vilify footb...all for its violent nature and concussion history, but please note that almost 15% of total injuries in female soccer are concussion related! Also Male's soccer and Female basketball stand out as high risk for concussion. Please keep this in mind and don't think that football is the only sport known for concussions. See more

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) for Plantar Fasciitis: As a chiropractor, one of the most frustrating conditions that I treat is plantar fasciitis. Don't get me wrong, chiropractic care, extremity adjusting, and adjunctive myofascial therapy can greatly benefit patients who present with plantar fasciitis! The average plantar fasciitis case resolves over an average period of 10 months. Unfortunately, I am often the last option for the plantar fasciitis patient, which means t...hat they have often already experienced 10 months or more of heel and foot pain BEFORE they come to this clinic. In other words, these are the medical failures that I am treating. That is why I am so excited to add LLLT as a new and innovative therapy to aide the treatment of plantar fasciitis. A 10 session treatment of LLLT increases cell proliferation, decreases inflammation, and increases the production of ATP in cells. Treating Carpal Tunnel Syndrome with Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT): Carpal tunnel syndrome was the first condition in the U.S. that laser therapy devices were FDA approved to treat. It therefore has accumulated more research than most conditions for which LLLT is used. Recent reviews and meta-analyses of over 18 years of clinical trials have concluded that LLLT improves grip strength; reduces pain on a visual analog scale; and sensory nerve action potential as measured by ...electrodiagnostic testing. Improvements were maintained on both 6 and 12 week follow-up assessments. Approximately 90% of patients treated with LLLT showed improvement. Only 10% went on to have CTS surgery. Laser therapy should be included as one part of a comprehensive plan of noninvasive treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome, not an isolated treatment. We recommend a plan of 10 LLLT treatments over the course of 5 weeks in addition to chiropractic care and myofascial therapy for the entire kinetic chain of joints and muscles from the neck to the wrist. Laser therapy is an effective, painless, and affordable therapy for carpal tunnel treatment.

Introducing Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT): At Alday Chiropractic we are excited to introduce LLLT as a new therapy for tissue repair and the treatment of inflammation. LLLT works through a photochemical effect. This is similar to the process of photosynthesis in plants. Plants make energy from exposure to sunlight (photons) which penetrate the leaves of a plant and activate pigments, or cytochromes, in the cell to produce ATP (the stuff that powers our cells).... In humans, mitochondria are the "powerhouse" of our cells and produce the majority of our ATP. Mitochondria also contain pigments. The primary one is called cytochrome C oxidase. LLLT stimulates cytochrome C oxidase to work correctly in injured and inflamed cells. This restores the normal ability of the mitochondria to work properly to provide energy to the cell and to power the normal repair process. To summarize, these are the main biological effects of LLLT: 1. Restoration of normal mitochondrial respiration and ATP production. 2. Protection against cellular damage caused by oxidative stress. Reduction of nitric oxide, PGE-2, and other chemicals that cause damage and pain. 3. LLLT also enhances DNA synthesis and repair, cellular metabolism, and cell proliferation.
