Keep Your Gutters Cleaned Out Rain gutters filled with leaves, dirt, and other debris is a common occurrence. When too much of this accumulates in your rain gutters, however, they are unable to do their job and filter rainwater away from the base of your home. This can very quickly lead to flooding and water damage in your basement. The good news is that the fix to this is very simple. Just clean your gutters! The bad news is that cleaning your gutters isn’t much fun. Nonetheless, this is a crucial step in keeping your home safe from flooding over the summer. Check Your AC Unit Regularly Your AC unit can produce a large of amount of condensate each day. It is easy to see how this can quickly lead to a flood. It collects in the condensate drip pan beneath the indoor air handler. Check the pan for standing water that indicates a potential clog. Make sure to check your AC unit often to make sure everything is functioning properly. Inspect Your Appliances Appliances are a common source for flooding within homes. With so many different appliances that use water like dishwashers, refrigerators, water heaters, and toilets, they can become an easy source for flooding. Make sure you stay up to date on checking your appliances to make sure they are functioning properly.
