I hope you and yours are all well and enjoying this great fall weather. You have no doubt heard the news regarding Equifax’s data breech. This is a basic protection and easy first step to help prevent identity theft.... I now urge you to check with Equifax to find out if you were part of their data breech. If your personal information was hacked then you are eligible for free monitoring through their program called TrustedID. Isn’t THAT an ironic name?! Check it out at: https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com Equifax is one of three credit reporting agencies so you should also contact the other two, Transunion and Experian, to freeze your credit with them. The Georgia Consumer Protection Unit website has great information and makes it easy. http://www.consumer.ga.gov/consumer-topics/credit-freeze Of course, freezing your credit alone will not completely protect you but it is an easy and basic step to take. If you own a business I recommend that you review your commercial insurance coverage for data breech protection. Many commercial policies are skimpy on this coverage.
