A-Team Thursday Amber Johnson, BCBA joined ALP earlier this year. She brought with her a wealth of experiences that have benefited both our clinical team and the families we serve. Amber has assisted with child development research as well as initial diagnostic testing for children on the spectrum. She truly understands the journey a family has walked on their way to intervention. Three years ago Amber began her own journey into the world of applied behavior analysis (...ABA) so that she could be involved in the treatment of the core symptoms of ASD in a whole hearted, roll your sleeves up kind of way. Seeing her clients and their families make progress towards goals that are meaningful to them is what motivates Amber to continue working in ABA. She is light to all that know her and we are the luckiest to have her at ALP!

Meet Brysen: "No one prepared me for the love I would have for my child. My son being diagnosed at 2 years old with autism was one of the toughest times in my l...ife. I had nights where I couldn't sleep thinking about his future and how he would cope with things like bullying. Over time as I watched him grow. He has made so much progress at such a young age and is so smart and loving. Through the countless sessions of therapy, and then the sacrifices I made back then when we weren't financially stable, struggling, and living paycheck to paycheck. My doubts are long gone. I realized that instead of worrying about his future, I should care more about the kid he is today. From the outside looking in, it is hard to understand. And from the inside looking out, it is hard to explain. But one day maybe it'll all be much clearer for people to see. I want to thank him for helping mold me into the man I am today. Daddy loves you!" See more
Early signs of autism we missed when she was a baby. If we knew what we were looking for we would have probably noticed her sensory seeking, stimming, her pica,... and other signs of autism. Let's take a walk down memory lane! I don't think we've ever uploaded this video to Facebook so I wanted to share it with you.

Early intervention is about identifying a young child’s developmental needs and providing extra support and teaching to help them reach the next step in the journey of communicating, interacting, moving, playing, learning, etc. Young children on the autism spectrum tend to approach learning in unique ways and parents and others may need ideas of how to best engaged their ...child. Early intervention for autism is about how to structure interactions and engage the child in a way that helps boost their positive growth.
