American Honey Queen Program 17.11.2020

East Troy Honey brings us this beautiful Wisconsin Wildflower honey. I cannot get over the wonderful smell! Wildflower honey always has such a fresh aroma. The owners of East Troy honey had started planting fruit trees back in 1933, and when they gained no fruit for almost three years, they found an article on proper pollination, and the honeybees started from there! They are proud to have pure honey, no added preservatives or anything someone isn't familiar with. Everything ...they have is what the bees provide. In this video, I also discuss some native Wisconsin wildflowers that the bees may have visited to produce this honey. Today's honey is a Texas North Texas Fall Floral varietal, produced by Wolf Creek Honey. Dave and Mary Ann Allen of Wolf Creek Honey, raise over 50 hives that they love and cherish. They are proud of their second place win for their dedicaion to their chemical free techniques they use with their honeybees, given to them by the Texas State Fair Black Jar contest. This landed them in the Richard Living Magazine, in a bee specific article. This wildflower honey contains multipl...e Texas native flowers, including goldenrod, white and pink asters, and snow on the prairie. Honeybees find food in all sorts of places! Today's honey was made from nectar collected by plants growing alongside the Okefenokee swamp in Georgia. Honeybees forage for 4 things while out and about during the day - nectar, pollen, propolis, and water. Swamp areas are ideal to look for them! You can find them on Facebook at The Honey Shack or online at http://bruceshoneyshack.com/.

Today for Halloween, I visited the Hahira Happenings Farmers Market with former 2016 American Honey Queen, Kim Post (Kester). We made and sold pure beeswax candles for her business, Honeydale Farm Goods. While there, the Mayor of Hahira, Bruce Cane, came and welcomed me to their honeybee-loving city. I discussed with him my previous travels of the year, and how I've been giving presentations both in person and virtually, reaching many people. ~Princess Sydnie

Today in Georgia, I worked with Dana Carney, the Lanier County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent UGA Extension, and we made a couple different recipes. Three of them came from the Honey Queen Program's brochure, making a beautiful berry salad with honey roasted pecans, and a honey vinegar dressing. We also made Honey Mustard Glazed Carrots, and Grilled Peaches with a Honey Cream. I also presented to two third grade classes from Sawyer Elementary School in Iowa. They had so many great questions, one of them asking how migratory beekeeping works.

This morning, I spoke with 92.9 All American Country, a radio station that reaches Southern Georgia and Northern Florida. We discussed my upcoming appearance on Halloween at the Hahira Farmers Market, and how I'll be handing out honey candy and brochures to passerby. To top it off, we discussed the importance of honeybees, and how in the past 3 years, Georgia beekeepers have consecutively produced over 3 million pounds of honey! ~Princess Sydnie
