Dad, (AKA Jesse, Pops, and PawPaw) We want to take this opportunity to congratulate you on a wonderful career. We believe that your co-workers and friends would agree that, for the past 40 years, you have dedicated yourself to growing your business down a successful path with integrity, drive and compassion. Athens and the surrounding community have been fortunate to have you as their neighborhood Service Station for the past 37 years. You have no choice but to look back on... your career with a sense of great pride and accomplishment, especially for a boy who grew up in a town of 300 people. Although it took great dedication and focus on your career to make the journey from Elba, Alabama, you always did it for your family. You are not only a professional mentor to me but a personal one as well. You have provided us with a roadmap as to how to live our lives, and I hope to live up to that standard of determination, caring, honesty and integrity that you have set for all of us. Thank you again for all you have done for us but primarily, on this day, for all you have done for the people of this community throughout your career. We know you are not the type of person who will just sit on the couch, so we wish you much luck (and fun!) with your future endeavors , whatever they may be. Happy Retirement. We love you! Becky, Lynn, Sue, Tiffany, Brittney, Johnny, Jerry, Bryson, Josh, Shell, Flo, Lexi, Gracie and Jimmy

Monday morning gas tip! When you allow your tank to remain near empty, condensation can form and wind up in your gas. It probably won’t cause any short-term damage, but it can dilute your gas and cause your engine to run less efficiently. So swing by and fill your tank!!!

We hope everyone stays safe this Halloween and we encourage you to drive slower than the speed limit, especially in residential areas. Kids get very excited about their candy and won’t always pay attention before darting out in the road to cross the street. Stay safe...

The first filling stations began cropping up around 1909. From the beginning, attendants filled the gas tank for the motorist, but it's a rare moment today when a motorist can drive into a station, have gas pumped, the windshield cleaned, the oil checked and the tire pressure checked. Are you NOT happy getting out of the car in rain, snow, frigid or hot and humid temps, or just feeling like being pampered? Well, Smith's Service Station is staying old school. Swing by and let us do the pumping for you on our full service islands.

Stop by today to fill up, or get your oil changed while you capture Pokemon hanging around the station.

Not only do extreme temperatures have a potentially dangerous effect on the human body, they can do some serious damage to your vehicle. Extremely hot temperature can damage the rubber of your tires, especially if they are improperly inflated. The battery of your car is composed of both water and acid. When temperatures start to heat up, the water in the battery will evaporate faster, leaving the lead plates exposed.... Low coolant levels in high heat can kill your engine. Also be aware that if you have a damaged radiator or hoses, coolant may leak causing your engine temperature to rise even more. Also, gas evaporates quicker in a hot vehicle than it does in a cold one. Keeping your car in a garage or shade as much as possible will improve your fuel economy. Stay safe this summer

This Memorial Day weekend, we'd like to pay tribute to the Service Members who have lost their lives in defense of our country. It is a day to reflect on the service and sacrifice of these men and women and to acknowledge the families who have lost their loved ones. As we pay our respects to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, we would also like to recognize and thank those who actively protect our country. We also want to wish all of you a safe, enjoyable holiday and thank you for your continued commitment.
