November 10, 1775 -- 245 Years Ago TODAY! Happy Birthday to the United States Marines... and, "thank you", to all who have served! The official birthday of the ...United States Marine Corps is on 10 November 1775. That was the day when the Second Continental Congress established the Continental Marines with the following decree: That two battalions of Marines be raised consisting of one Colonel, two lieutenant-colonels, two majors and other officers, as usual in other regiments; that they consist of an equal number of privates as with other battalions, that particular care be taken that no persons be appointed to offices, or enlisted into said battalions, but such as are good seamen, or so acquainted with maritime affairs as to be able to serve for and during the present war with Great Britain and the Colonies; unless dismissed by Congress; that they be distinguished by the names of the First and Second Battalions of Marines. DUE TO ANTICIPATED WEATHER -- Flags will NOT go out. CANCELLED. As, a Public Service Announcement: ALL are invited and encouraged to join us THIS coming Wednes...day - November 11th - Veterans Day, where we will meet at the Whitfield County, Georgia Courthouse at 6:45 AM to place the hundreds of U.S. Flags out on the lawn and in the Honor of ALL who have served. After all the flags have been placed, we will gather in front of the Veterans Monument to have a few words and to take part in prayer. We will return to the Courthouse in order to gather the Flags at 5:00 PM that same day. ALL ages and Everyone is invited to join in. We do this to bring Honor where is Honor is due. For, the term Patriot is often times over used, and/or misused, for these are the true Patriots to whom we give Honor, for a Patriot is simply one who has committed EVERYTHING in the acquisition of Liberty/freedom for others; up to and including his/her own life. The whole world wants for freedom, but few there are who will claim it. Please make plans to join us THIS coming Wednesday and bring the kids along... I promise, you'll be SO glad that you did.
