Harvest of Hope Food Pantry August 19, 2021 The drive-thru distributions at First Baptist Church ended with the June 17th, 2021 distribution. We are now back... at the food pantry giving out food at 606 McGarrah Street. July 2021 was almost like when we first opened Harvest of Hope Food Pantry in June of 2013. I personally feel that, even though we were able to distribute food to a great many people during the drive-thru distributions, our conversion back to the food pantry hasn’t been smooth nor easy. In some ways, many of our clients were lost and we have been having trouble getting them back. Communication in Americus is very difficult because so many of our clients do not have computers and many of them may not read the Times-Recorder. So often, when I see some of them, they do not know that we are operating at the food pantry now. We have been working hard since we returned to the food pantry building, trying to get everything straight. When you are not using a building, it is amazing how much clutter can build up. We have discovered that we need a dumpster, but we have also discovered that we do not have a location for a dumpster. Because of this we are still struggling with the disposal, primarily, of cardboard. When we installed the walk-in freezers, I was told by the individual who did all the electrical work and who maintains them that walk-in freezers are high maintenance items and we have been fortunate that we have not had a major problem with any of them until now. We have just had to replace the compressor in the small walk-in freezer. We have been working for about two weeks trying everything to avoid what turned out to be the inevitable, but we finally had to give in and order a compressor. As I type, the new compressor has been ordered and installed. As we get back into the swing of distributing food, if you would like to volunteer, just show up on Monday or Tuesday. We continue to need your help with donations of food items and/or financial donations. We need both. We also need your continual prayer support.
