IT’S TODAY! After a year and a half of virtual programming, our amazing Industry Partner Teri Williams, with Williams-Sonoma, Inc. Business to Business, has graciously offered to host our chapter’s return to in-person events by throwing a joint 2021 Design Excellence Awards Winner’s Party and 2022 Annual Meeting where we will celebrate the winners, introduce and induct our incoming 2022 Board of Directors, and recognize our 2021 volunteers. In honor of Black History Month, every week in February ASID Georgia will spotlight Black Interior Designers. Please meet Dr. Angie Scott, Allied ASID. Dr. Angie Scott, Allied ASID is Director, Community Concept Lead for the WELL Building Standard, and Health Equity Lead at the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). In these roles, she oversees the Community concept for the WELL Building Standard and the Health Equity Advisory for IWBI. She recently was an assistant pr...ofessor at Georgia Southern University in the interior design program, where she taught for 6 years and now serves as an adjunct professor. In addition, Angie runs a residential design business focusing on well-being. She believes that design should be equitable for everyone regardless of race, gender, age, or ability. Her research takes a preventative approach to the interior environment, focusing on the intersection of residential design, housing, and well-being, and cultural well-being, and workplace environments. Through these perspectives, she focuses on mental health (stress reduction) and occupant satisfaction. Scott has worked in the interior design profession as a practitioner, educator, and researcher for nearly 20 years. She earned a Ph.D. in interior design, focusing on well-being and evidence-based design, from the University of Minnesota, and was named an inaugural ASID Ones to Watch Award Winner and Scholar. She believes that interior designers can make significant contributions to the human condition through the power and impact of the built environment on people’s well-being.

A CEU you don't want to miss: Designing for Neurodiversity: Strategies for Inclusive Workplaces About this Event:... Work environments today needs to be designed to be inclusive for all. But to be inclusive we need to go beyond to address the nuisances needed to accommodate personality traits, work styles and neurodivergents. We are living in a time of increased numbers and awareness about individuals with neuro-sensitives and special needs, such as ADHD. In fact, 1 in 8 people are considered neurodiverse but fewer than 50% know it. But these individuals can be high energy, out of the box thinkers, excel in a crisis, and be bold problem solvers. Not only is designing to be inclusive the right thing to do, there is a compelling business case for it as well, investigation the various aspects of neurodiversity and explore how to create spaces that are more physically and culturally inclusive for people with a wide spectrum of neurological conditions to allow them to thrive. To help all people, neurotypicals and neurodivergents, function at higher levels and feel refreshed we must design intentionally to achieve mindfulness in the workplace. We need to create environments that can help accommodate all, enable neurodiversity and creating truly inclusive workspaces. This session will showcase how to create spaces that are more physically and culturally inclusive for people with a wide spectrum of neurological conditions to allow them to thrive.
