Parents are encouraged to participate in the Clarke County School District's survey in regard to planning for the start of the school year. Some questions on the survey ask if in-person classes should begin at the beginning of August or later; if frequently testing for COVID 19 for students should occur; if families have good internet access; if students will ride the bus to school; and, other pertinent information in planning for the new school year. The survey is on the CCSD web site at www.clarke.k12.ga.us and will be available until June 12.

Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services has cancelled all summer day camps scheduled for July in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The decision to cancel was based on the group size restrictions; difficulty hiring staff for the shorter camp; inability to share materials; and, that campers would need to wear face masks. All those who preregistered for camps will receive a refund over the next several weeks. For more information, contact www.accgov.com/leisure services.

Immediate and important Information for Social Security/Railroad Retirment beneficiaries: The IRS announced on April 20, 2020, that Social Security/Railroad Retirement beneficiaries must file a form by noon EST Wednesday, April 22 to get stimulus payments for their children in a timely way. IF YOU: Receive Social Security retirement benefits including Social Security Disability Insurance, or Railroad Retirement benefits Have a child/children under age 17 who qualifies f...or the $500 Economic Impact (stimulus) payment for each dependent child. Did not file a 2018 or 2019 tax return You must go to https://www.irs.gov/coro/non-filers-enter-payment-info-here by NOON (EST) ON Wed., APRIL 22, 2020 in order to automatically receive the extra $500 for each eligible child along with your own $1,200 stimulus payment. For people in these groups who have a qualifying child and didn't file a 2018 or 2019 tax return, they have a limited window to register to have $500 per eligible child added automatically to their soon-to-be-received $1,200 Economic Impact Payment. A quick trip to a special non-filer tool on IRS.gov by noon Eastern time, Wednesday, April 22, for some of these groups may help put all of their eligible Economic Income Payment into a single payment. The $1,200 payments will be issued soon and, in order to add the $500 per eligible child amount to these payments, the IRS needs the dependent information before the payments are issued. Otherwise, their payment at this time will be $1,200 and, by law, the additional $500 per eligible child amount would be paid in association with a return filing for tax year 2020. See more
