On Tuesday, I (NC1) hit 12 years in the Navy. I remember when I first hit 10. To say these have gone by so fast is an understatement!! I still remember being dropped off at the recruiting station on Mother’s Day, shipping out the next day. I have learned an incredible amount about leadership just within the last few years which may not have been given to me in any other job. One of the coolest experiences I ever witnessed was watching a future sailor swear into being a citizen, prior to going to boot camp. He had already begun the process before joining the Navy, but were able to help expedite the procedure. For those who did not begin their process, permanent residents are eligible for citizenship while serving in the US Navy! On today’s feature of #travelthursday, I bring to you Sigonella, Italy! This was 10 years ago; March of 2010. I was a reservist, and this was my second out of the country visit. Yes, reservists still travel! There is nothing more humbling than standing these majestic architecture structures from over 500 years ago; and these countries were full of them! The second picture is sitting in one of the confessionals of a 13th century Catholic Church. This was before cell phone cameras were as advanced as they are now. It’s time for #funfactfriday! Did you know almost 30 years ago today, they first five co-ed divisions graduated from Recruit Training Command (RTC) in Orlando, FL? This location has since closed its doors to recruit training. The only location for Navy boot camp is Great Lakes, IL. NC1 and ABF1 both graduated from integrated divisions in 2008 and 2009, respectively.
