Glen and Mary Rohrer from Melbourne, Florida have chosen two prints that show the great versatility of illustrator, cartoonist, painter, and professor Dave Gildersleeve, whom we lost one year ago to cancer. "Ace of Bass" (L) is from a series celebrating music and jazz and "3 Savile Row" (R) is one of his many Beatles tributes.
Another very popular option at A. T. Hun! Finding a work of original art that is just perfect to gift someone near and dear. Paula from Illinois and Polly from Jacksonville, Florida, meet up at the A. T. Hun Art Gallery in Savannah and find a Steve Schuman Beatles portrait to bring home as gift. Not shown so as to keep it a surprise ! but you can see all of Steve's Beatles and other beloved rockers at www.athun.com/celebrities.html. Double matted 16"X20" prints are all available at the Gallery or online.
Unabashed Vikings fan (?) Dave Steinbrenner and his super cute family from Ohio were in the Gallery this week and chose Dave Gildersleeve's mural "Child of the 80's" to take home as a lasting reminder of fun times in Savannah.
Because.....who can't relate? Britt has chosen as his Hun Staff Fave a new *very* mixed media 12"X12" burlap canvas original by our very own (artist/manager) Brigitte Pirlot called "Coffee, Story of My Life". He says he loves it "Well, because.....COFFEE!!!!!"
Alex and Adam from Orlando showing off their new Chuck Hamilton original "Delish", a 16"X20" acrylic on canvas using his special "dirty brush" technique. Chuck loads his brush with multiple colors and applies them as moving stripes. This is the kind of impressionistic art that can be anything you want it to be. Your ice cream cone melting on the hot pavement after you dropped it while trying to find your keys. ? Or ??
Thanks to Brigitte for her enthusiastic Hun Staff pick "Alone Together", an 8"X8" print on wood by Hun member artist and illustrator Melissa Moss. She says, "The details of Melissa's works are so awesome, cute and captivating. You can spend a while checking details--such as the tent, house, or adorable creatures. So imagine the time you need to choose only one print of hers. But.. well, you don't have to restrain yourself to just one!! We love it, customers love it." Classic Brigitte.
What a great choice for Dee and Sheri from Tybee Island, Georgia. Fellow Tybee Island resident James Dean's Pete the Cat 24"X36" original "Pete Facing Jaws". An actual occurrence on Tybee! Not to mention an interesting reminder of the strange year 2020 when we ended up at home watching classic movies we haven't seen for 45 years.
Welcome to Monique, our newest Hunette, who is already doing a fabulous job helping our visitors make their art choices. Speaking of choices, Monique makes her first Hun Staff fave pick: photo realistic painter Fred Pirlot's clever new diptych "Half Hearted". "I love the diptych and realistic style of this one! The deep shades of grey and blue really emphasize the meaningful image of love." Each canvas is 8"X16" and the set is $500.
Jeff and Sarah from Atlanta are so happy with their very special find, Dave Gildersleeve's giclée canvas prints of "Soundtrack of the 80's" and "Soundtrack of the 90's". Everyone who has ever been to A. T. Hun in Savannah knows Dave's four excruciatingly detailed 12"X48" mural form paintings "Child of the 60"s" through "Child of the 90's". This 16"X20" series covers the same decades but with album covers of unimaginable detail--Dave outdoing even himself. Though we lost Dave a year ago, his art is still very much with us thanks to his wife Sam, who has just brought us this series. For more info call the Gallery at (912) 233-2060 or email [email protected].
What do you think of the not-so-hidden message in Chuck's new 20"X16" original painting on canvas "The Year 2020 With 20/20 Hindsight" ?? Then again, it isn't over yet.....
Thanks to April for her Friday Fave Hun Staff pick, a new (more serene than usual) Pete the Cat, a 24"X30" original painting on canvas by Hun resident artist James Dean called "Birdie Friend". April is all tricked out in her A. T. Hun swag--Pete the Cat tee and Dave Gildersleeve mask. If you are looking for a great back-to-school gift give the Gallery a call at (912) 233-2060 to find out about these and other artful suggestions.
Bill Colt is always bringing us some new aspect of colorful retro memories--this time "Totems" a 12"X36" original on canvas now at the Gallery. It is Sarah's Hun Staff Fave this week: "I love the composition, color palette and unique angle at which this particular work was painted. It has a vintage vibe but feels fresh instead of outdated. One of my favorite things about all of Bill's works is that he preps his canvases by adhering original text and advertisements before he even begins the painting process. This creates a unique visual interest and depth that can't be captured with painting alone. Every time you look at his work you see something new. It's both captivating and BRILLIANT!"
Inquiring minds want to know....whaa? Though to be honest he is more of a bah humbug kind of guy when it comes to Christmas, Chuck LOVES Christmas tree balls and their potential. (Remember the Christmas tree ball Elvis?) And because he is in a more relaxed, less classical mood this week, this transplanted plain talking Midwesterner has called his new 24"X30" original painting/collage on canvas with painted Christmas balls sealed overall in resin "Balls 'n S**t".
