The purpose of entering into a state of ecstasy [wajd] is the temporary obliteration [maHw] of one's ordinary state of ego-centered thoughts and desires and entering into a state of "annihilation" or "passing away" [fanâ] in which there is pure awareness of (only) the Highest Order of Spirit (God). All that is upon (the earth) will pass away but the Face of the Divine will abide. It can be said that the real goal is sobriety after ecstasy. When the room became so full - we had to pull some of your place markers, but this one remained in place - in your honor. (I bet we can guess whose spot this is ). Despite your absence on this evening - you were still with us in spirit.
