Please-we can not stress this enough! Just last night while on a medical call we came across multiple space heaters plugged in to multiple extension cords. The cords were hot to the touch and already had burn marks from previous close calls! Hopefully the short lesson we gave the home owner educated them on the danger they were putting their family in! Even when we are at a residence for a medical call or completely unrelated reason-when we see a danger we make sure we try to educate the citizens!

Yesterday Engine 13 C-Shift along with E- 12, 18 T-1, 10, 12 Squad 4, Air 7, Battalion 5, 3 had a working fire on a 50x150 church. An aggressive interior attack resulted in saving this early 1970 church. Great work by all companies working this fire!

This morning Engine 13 responded on the 2nd alarm to a fire on Auburn Avenue in Downtown Atlanta. Initial crew at the fire were met with heavy fire conditions and after attempting a push to extinguish the blaze they were forced out and defensive operations began. E13 arrived after the defensive operations began and was given an assignment to relieve Squad 4 on the roof of the adjacent building and continue suppression with a 2 1/2 hand line with Truck 11. Outstanding job by all companies on scene! #Lucky13 #Atlantafire #EAV #EastAtlanta #AuburnAve #ChiefMiller #Fire

Good stuff here. Do your job. The public wants the aggressive firemen to show up... not the ones who are reluctant to take action or are unsure of themselves. Period. #dontbethatguy

Early this morning, Captain Greg Wise was called home. He was a true hero, a leader, a great father, friend and (since my sister Kristy married him) I had the p...rivilege of calling him my Brother. I never got the chance to make it by the firehouse with my cameras to catch him at work like I wanted to but since he worked the house for my neighborhood I was regularly able to see him on the job, doing the work he loved so much. I'll be honest with you - I felt pretty damn secure knowing that most nights and days my little family was being watched over by another member of my family - in a real and official capacity. It's a rare thing to experience and not that easy to describe. I remember him taking the opportunity to have the driver cram that truck down our tiny street for the sole purpose of showing his crew our house. I can still see him on that truck riding to calls so many times (because I always looked, always waved just in case), pointing at me as they screamed by, sunglasses on and grinning an order to one of the folks on the truck invariably heading to provide relief to a neighbor upon whom disaster had likely fallen. And I know for a fact that to have him pulling you out of burning building or wrecked car wasn't just comforting - he likely had you laughing in spite of your circumstance before he left your presence to answer the next call from someone else in dire need. He followed in his own father's foot steps, even down to serving the same fire department and neighborhoods. Sadly, his fight with cancer is not unique among his brethren. As it turns out, the effects of fighting fires brings as many (more) risks as the fires themselves. He fought it bravely and never stopped. Even to the last. Be intentional about your life and the connections you are lucky to have made. Tell them. Spend time with them. Reach out and make it a point to do so. Take advantage of the good times and make the most of the challenges and try to appreciate whatever time you have. This life is so incredibly short. Do right by your loved ones. Climb up on that red wagon and ring that brass bell, Greg - Just like I know you did for the first time so many years ago. Ring it loud and don't stop until you hit the gates. Be at peace. I hope to see you again. May you rest well.
