It’s December. And it’s cold in Atlanta. And we are in full HOLIDAY SPIRIT at A to Z. Wait until you see our decor ! In the meantime, a fun holiday activity for inspiration: We worked on requesting, describing, spatial concepts, and seasonal vocabulary. ... We hope you get in the spirit too! #slp #speechtherapy #apraxiaofspeech #feedingtherapy #autismawareness

Continuing the holiday spirit, virtually of course! Decorating this gingerbread house was great for using our target carrier phrases, prepositions, and having fun . Perks of teletherapy are the casual puppy appearances in the background!... #slp #teletherapy #speechtherapy #apraxiaofspeech

A funny AND informative post! thanks @northfloridatherapy Talk About It Tuesday: Pacifiers. Speech Language Pathologists have strong opinions about pacifiers, but we're here to pacify your worries because while we mostly dislike them, there are *some* benefits to their LIMITED use! Pros of pacifier use:... they can be used as a sleep aid to get a baby to fall asleep they can pacify your crying baby they can help you determine if your baby is hungry or just fussy they can help with reflux by keeping stomach acid down they can aid tube-fed babies with associating the sucking motion while being fed through their tube for future transition to oral eating Cons of pacifier use: they could cause future dental problems they could cause an increased risk of middle ear infections they could cause speech delays they could cause swallowing difficulties they could cause dependency in the child they could cause negative social impacts if the child still uses it while his similarly aged peers no longer use pacifiers Pacifiers can be beneficial when used appropriately, but detrimental to proper development when used inappropriately. Stay tuned for more posts this week about pacifiers! If you think your child has a pacifier dependency or you're having concerns regarding your child's pacifier use, please contact our office to schedule an appointment at 904-264-2636. #pacifier #pacifierclips #pacifierholder #pacify #baby #babies #developmentalmilestones #developmentaldelays #delay #developmentaldelay #speechdelay #letushelpyou #letushelp #jacksonville #jacksonvillemom #jaxmom #duval #duvalcounty #stjohnscounty #orangepark #orangeparkfl #claycounty #mandarinfl #nocatee #pontevedra #jaxbeach

Great tips from @thesltscrapbook Here is the final post in my Late Talkers "mini-series"! These are just SOME of the language facilitation strategies you can use with your late talkers. There are loads more, so I'll share some more posts in my stories!... These strategies are effective and evidence-based. They're ideal strategies to coach parents/caregivers to use at home with their child, both during play and daily routines. . These strategies come under the umbrella term of General Language Stimulation. There is strong evidence to support this with late talkers. General Language Stimulation techniques involve you making changes to the child's physical and linguistic environment, in order to increase opportunities for the child to hear developmentally appropriate language. There is also strong evidence to support coaching parents and caregivers to use these strategies too. . If you're wanting more ideas for ways you can coach parents and caregivers to use these strategies during play and daily routines at home, I have multiple resources in my TpT store. They all aim to help you easily plan and deliver effective, evidence-based therapy sessions. My EI Handbook comes with hundreds of examples to help you confidently coach parents/caregivers to use 24 different language strategies in play and routines. Link in stories and profile. . . I hope you've found this "mini-series" helpful!
