Last night, former Georgia head football coach Mark Richt announced that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which is a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement. After being hospitalized with a brain bleed, Debra's recovery continued at Rehabilitation Hospital, Navicent Health. She was impressed with therapy team that has helped her begin to regain strength in her right hand. At the same time, she was overwhelmed and had true peace of mind during her entire time at the hospital. Debra shares her experience with excellent care from nursing teammates that went above and beyond to meet her needs! She says the food was great and the hospital was so clean. Everything was just wonderful. Debra is now continuing to recovery at home!

We are celebrating Lou Gehrig Day to honor him and raise awareness for ALS alongside Major League Baseball. Dr. Leo McCluskey, director of the Neuromuscular Pr...ogram with Atrium Health Neurosciences Institute, says he always knew about Lou Gehrig, growing up as a Yankees fan in New Jersey. When my medical career got me involved in ALS, I learned more about him. Now, on this day, Dr. McCluskey wants to spread awareness about the specialized care our ALS clinic offers our patients. As ALS patients get worse, it’s hard to move about the world. Being able to accommodate their needs in a multidisciplinary visit is incredible. It’s a one-stop shop. His advice? If you’re experiencing progressive muscle weakness, tell your doctor. Early detection leads to early intervention, like therapy, to help with function and quality of life. This inspirational moment was "like a shot in the arm!" Mika, an accomplished violinist, was able to meet Larry in an event earlier this week. Mika played her violin as a special treat for Larry, the other patients, and the care team. Mika, a loved one of Larry’s, inspired and lifted everyone’s spirits. Larry, who is recovering from COVID-19 at Rehabilitation Hospital, Navicent Health, said It was a real dose of medicine.
