We went down to Savannah on a case on Sunday and Monday and got to enjoy the city as well as do some great litigating. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month we decided to show off our pink. For 3 months I put Lashawn out in the field to see if she could find her way back. She not only came back but she exuded great confidence and ability to practice law. She started off as my mentee studying for the bar, then as my mentee navigating the waters through the courts and fighting for clients, and now she is the first associate in the firm. It’s an honor and pleasure to welcome Attorney Lashawn McQueen to the firm. She will be handing many of our criminal matters as well as personal injury. It is my hopes and dreams that Lashawn will continue to be a great asset not only to the firm but to the legal profession. On this exact day 4 years ago all my hard work and sacrifice came to fruition. I was sworn into the practice of law in the state of Georgia. Now this pic speaks a lot of unknown. I was homeless at the time when this pic was taken. I had no money for a suit. I went to goodwill and they had a brand new chaps blazer which is pictured here. Bought some good condition slacks. Shoes came from goodwill and tie. I didn’t have money to get my hair done so it was laid down. My tooth wa...s aching and needed to be pulled and if you look close my jaw looks swollen. I was a mess in a precious moment. Since 3rd grade my dream was to be a lawyer. I never stopped dreaming and I stayed determined through all my ups and downs. When I was around drugs and fighting growing up I stayed determined. When I didn't have any money in college I stayed determined. When I was homeless I stay determined. When I didn't pass the bar when I wanted to I stayed determined. When I was working at Waffle House and Cracker Barrel slaving to make ends meet I stayed determined. Nothing was going to stop me from accomplishing my dreams. Since that time I have had the privilege of representing over 1000+ people in four years time. I’ve won felony and misdemeanor jury and bench trials. Numerous cases dismissed. Helping the community at large. Unheard of if you ask me. A lot of people tried to deter me from going out on my own to start. Said I was going to fail. I didn’t have the means to do it. That I had to cut my hair. That I wouldn’t be taken serious. Well I proved all that wrong quick!! I just remained humble, hustle, worked very hard, and thanked God for blessing me day in and day out. I still remember reciting the oath and having chills all over my body. The entire outfit I had on straight out of Goodwill thrift store because I didn’t have the money to afford a suit. I couldn’t even get my hair done!! That’s why this pic means a lot because of the struggle and the perseverance to continue all the way to the end. I had the pleasure of having two mentees over the past 8-10 months. I am pleased to announce that my other mentee passed the Georgia Bar Exam on her first try!!! We have had many talks hours long about this exam, how to conquer it, life, and everything else. I’m so happy for her because she listened to me and was very disciplined in her studies and I encouraged her every step of the way up and to last night before the results were released today. I’m so elated for her and we can now etch your name on the good side the lawyer side!!! Thank you Sheila Lake for pairing us together. Congratulations to Lashawn McQueen Attorney and Counselor at Law. Welcome to the profession.

I am happy to announce one of my mentees passed the Georgia Bar Exam!! When I got the call this morning I already had those good vibes she passed.
