Colon cancer is the second highest cause of cancer related deaths in the US. The African American community have the highest incidence and mortality rate...s of colon cancer and unfortunately the lowest screening rates. National guidelines advocate for average risk screening to begin at age 50. This drops to age 45 for African Americans and to age 40 (or younger) depending on your family history. Colonoscopy is the most effective tool for screening and prevention. Screening via colonoscopy allows for detection and removal of colon polyps which allows for prevention of colorectal cancer and prevention of death.
