The yacht Stars and Stripes, which sailed in the America's Cup races in 1992, recently suffered a broken mast. It is sad that one of sailing's greatest yachts is now disabled. https://www.thelog.com//large-gust-dismasts-former-americ/

This year, 2019, has been the first year that the Augusta Sailing Foundation has been fully in operation. 90% of the money we spend goes directly to junior sailors to help them go to regattas, and to learn to become better racers. None of our board members draw a salary, and we do not hire any paid fundraisers. We have one of the best expense ratios of any 501 (c) (3) non profit organizations in the U.S. I am proud of the good work that we have done this year.

The principal thing we do at the Augusta Sailing Foundation is to help junior sailors with the costs of attending regattas in distant cites. Here we see Michael and Nate Bowen sailing in San Francisco Bay at the Chubb Junior Nationals. The Augusta Sailing Foundation, thanks to support from our donors, was able to reimburse the Bowen family for the cost of their air fare to and from San Francisco.
The Augusta Sailing Foundation recently gave a check to Michael and Nate Bowen to cover their airfare to fly to California for the Chubb Junior Nationals. We are all so proud of the Bowen boys for competing in the Chubb Junior Nationals.

At the Augusta Sailing Foundation, one of the things we do is to give books about racing to junior sailors. Sir Ben Ainslie, the British Olympic sailor who has won four gold medals and a silver medal, wrote a book about how to correctly race a Laser sailboat. Our foundation president, Tim Tyler, is giving a copy of Sir Ben's book to junior sailor Gaines Johnson.
The Augusta Sailing Foundation was just awarded the Bronze Seal of Transparency by Guidestar, which is a group that provides information about non profits. We are pleased by this honor.
When you sail on the open ocean, any boat can sink in a matter of minutes, even an America's Cup yacht manned by professional sailors. That's why at the Augusta Sailing Foundation, we stress safety at sea. We want our next generation of sailors to not only be great sailors, but safe sailors as well.
