Dedicated to Augusta’s most famous export, James Brown, The Soul Bar is a funky little watering hole located near Brown’s life-sized statue, and on the street where the legend (as a child) shined shoes and danced for small change. Nearby, the Augusta Museum of History maintains a collection of The Godfather of Soul’s clothing and artifacts. -Georgia Trend Magazine #augustatomorrow #augustageorgia #downtownaugusta #soulbar #jamesbrown #broadstreetaugusta #georgiatrend #georgiatrendmagazine

Augusta’s present downtown revitalization effort is one of many in the City’s long history. An earlier example was the response to the City’s economic slump in the 1830s. The solution was the creation of the Augusta Canal System. Built in 1845 and enlarged in 1875, this period in Augusta’s history saw the rise of mills along the Augusta Canal and the prosperity of manufacturing.
