Rebecca Lee Crumpler graduated from the New England Female Medical College in 1864 becoming the first African-American medical doctor. This was a time when most medical schools barred Black students regardless of gender. She committed her career to helping the poor and those that didn't have access to medical care. Her pioneering work was crucial at a time when few white doctors would see Black patients. She later authored a medical textbook to help Black women and their children maintain their health. #BlackHistoryMonth #CelebratingBlackHistoryMonth

The original incandescent light bulb had a major flaw it only lasted a few days. Lewis Howard Latimer developed a process to improve the filament in the bulb, making it last much longer. He then led various projects to introduce electric lighting to major city streets. Eventually, Lewis would go on draft and defend the patent for Edison's inventions. Latimer was also involved in drafting the patent for the telephone. Despite discrimination, Latimer's expertise and hard work have made a major impact on the lives of the American people. #BlackHistoryMonth #CelebratingBlackHistoryMonth
