AUGUSTA, Ga., February 2, 2021 Tornadoes, thunderstorms, floods, or other severe weather events can occur suddenly in Augusta-Richmond county. This is why Augusta Fire/EMA, in partnership with the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, is encouraging all residents to participate in Severe Weather Preparedness Week to prepare for the possibility of inclement weather. On Wednesday, February 3rd at 9 a.m., Augusta Fire/EMA will participate in the Georgia Em...ergency Management and Homeland Security Agency statewide Tornado Safety Drill. Residents, schools, and businesses are also encouraged to participate in the statewide tornado drill. During the drill, the Emergency Management Agency will activate outdoor warning sirens at May Park, Warren Road Community Center, Diamond Lakes, and Augusta Fire Station #12. The sires are part of the test, and residents should have nothing to fear. Additionally, 9-1-1 will conduct an ‘all call’ at 9 a.m. for Augusta Fire stations to sound their horns. Again, this is a readiness test. If people want to take part in the drill, they should take the following steps: Announce the start of the tornado drill and inform participants that they should act as though a tornado warning has been issued. Evacuate participants just as you would if you were taking shelter during a tornado warning. Use stairs to reach the lowest level of a building; avoid using elevators. Once participants reach the designated safe area, they should crouch as low as possible to the floor, facing down and covering their heads with their hands. Once everyone has been evacuated and taken cover, announce that the drill is over. Augusta, Georgia Fire/EMA will draw for a FREE weather radio for anyone who performs the Tornado Safety Drill, posts a photo of them performing the drill on social media (Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram), and tags Augusta Fire/EMA. The winner will be chosen at random. People can also register to receive Emergency Notifications by downloading the CodeRED app or by signing up on our website: https://www.augustaga.gov/1443/Public-Sign-Up-Page.

Congratulations! The Down N Dirty open coed team claimed the 2020 summer league championship, along with the end-of-season tournament championship. Good Vibes Sports finished second in both, as well. This was a "modified" (three females required) coed league played under COVID-19 modifications. Thanks to all of the players who participated under these conditions. There will be no fall league but hopefully things will be back to some normalcy in 2021. ... Stay safe, everyone!

Unfortunately the Augusta Recreation and Parks Department will not offer football, cheerleading, and soccer this Fall. In order to better accommodate the CDC's social distancing guidelines, we are considering to offer softball, baseball, and kickball as an alternative. We would like to get some input from the community on these plans and would like to hear from you if that is something you are interested in.
