THERAPY TRUTH: Your relationship with your therapist is conducive to YOUR healing! While the therapeutic relationship is presented as professional and elementary in retrospect it’s often personable with multiple layers to the process all of which play a part in how you approach and handle your healing journey. There is a technique we utilize in the profession known as broaching where therapists consider aspects about themselves that may or may not pose as an area of concer...n or be triggering for a client (such as gender, cultural beliefs and background, professional style, etc). This action and use of the technique goes both ways! The purpose of therapy is for you to comfortably and openly learn and access healing and I’d imagine that’s impossible to do if you are uncomfortable! Don’t be afraid to ask your therapist about their work, professional character, and anything in relation to how you are received and serviced, especially if it will assist in your ease of the therapeutic process! I am an adult and I just discovered I have ADHD now what? This question is not uncommon. ADHD has often gone undiagnosed, especially if you are not the hyperactive type.
