Healing is a process. A process that is typically necessary after some sort of trauma. Some of us are good at acknowledging we have been damaged and need to heal. While others of us take a little longer to realize the damage or impact a situation or combination of situations have had on us. And, often in the midst of figuring ourselves out, there are casualties that we bleed all over. . . The healing process is messy. It is unique to each of us and it takes time and commit...ment. . . When I began my healing journey, I remember feeling disconnected and lost. Like I was on an island all alone where nothing was familiar even though I was sitting in my own house. I felt like I didn’t know myself and I was just going through the motions of what had always been. . . I knew things had to change for me or I would loose everyone that was truly important to me including myself. I remember asking silently in the midst of the sloppy cry I was having on the floor, Where do I begin? How do I get through this? And, for the first time EVER, I just sat there quietly and listened. I didn’t ask anymore questions, I didn’t ask God to save me, I just sat there and listened. I remember placing my hand over my heart and feeling my heart beat, feeling my chest rise and fall with each labored breath. I just sat there and felt my pain. I allowed myself the time to feel all my feelings. And, after about 30 minutes I picked my sloppy crying self up from the floor. . . That was day one. My first day meditating and the first day of my healing journey. . . Needless to say, I’ve been on the floor, or on the sofa, or in a chair quietly feeling and listening ever since. . . Healing is not a destination, it’s a marathon. . . Healing doesn’t have to be extravagant, expensive, or traditional. Sometimes it just means going to the places that make us feel good.
