Just a quick highlight of something fun from this week. Wildlife Management is trying to practice some of the skills we are learning in class. We decided we wou...ld do a mark and recapture study on the crawfish at the nature trail. We have not caught enough for a good crawfish boil, but we’ve had a good time nonetheless. We marked what crawfish we caught the first go round with black zip ties so that they would not be easily detected by predators and kept them lose enough so that if we don’t find them again, they will be able to molt out of it. Crawfish are the perfect animal to test this on, as there no regulations on them in the state of Georgia. We will set a new line of traps next week in hopes of catching some of our marked bugs, which will help us determine the population of crawfish present in the creek. See more
