Thanks to Law 360 for featuring my article in the Expert Analysis Section this week. I felt compelled to write my thoughts on a battle brewing right now in state bars around the country (including Georgia and Florida). I find that most lawyers don't appreciate the threat presented by nonlawyer ownership of law firms to our profession and to clients. Behind closed doors, companies, insurers and private equity funds are strategizing ways to buy and own law firms. But we don't hear about that. GA Sup Ct to hear $2.8M Bad Faith Case: Honored to be featured in Law360 for my firm's work on a case being heard this week in the Georgia Supreme Court! A federal judge just ruled on the side of the insurer in Karmel Davis v. Hartford. Read more details here: http://bit.ly/HartfordRuling I have to take a moment to say I am not surprised. What a lot of class action/PI attorneys don't realize it that when they lose the test case, they create law, and directly cause court losses for every other policyholder/business. This was a terribly weak case to bring as the test case. A bankruptcy law firm claimed biz interruption because i...t was no longer able to meet with clients in person, thwarting its business and ultimate business purpose. Goodness of all the unsympathetic plaintiffs, with weak claims at best, this was the wrong case to bring, and if we lose too many more in GA, recovery will be dead in the water. #covid19legalupdate #businessinterruptioninsurance #insurancelaw #law
