James Lee "Jim" Steele, Sr.,79, of Winston,GA, passed away to his heavenly home on Monday, November 16, 2020. Jim was an accomplished and distinguished educator for over 40 years. Some of his achievements includes: Band Director, Music Teacher at R.L. Cousins School, Reading Teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal at the John W. Stewart Middle School and in 1989 Jim was elected as the first black Superintendent of the Douglas County School System. He went on to serve in D...ekalb County as an Assistant Principal, a Principal, Coordinator of Middle Grade of Administration, and Assistant Director/Coordinator of Middle and High School Adminstration. Jim was an accomplished clarinetist and proud member of of the Psi Psi chapter of the Omega Psi Psi Fraternity, Inc. In later years, Jim became an ordained minister and Director of the of the Children's Ministry at New Mountain Top Baptist Church in Winston, GA.
