It was a beautiful day to roll with these two families yesterday. These youngsters were incredibly strong riders and were every bit as skilled as most adults that do our tours! Bicycle Tours of Atlanta has been fortunate to hire some of the most impressive story tellers in the city. We continue to be very fortunate in that regard. But today, I want to shine the spotlight on Walt Haber. He delivered a masterful presentation of Atlanta's Journey for Civil Rights to the HR Department and new CEO of Porsche North America. At times, we have guests who are not able to finish the tour. -- It happens, it's not that big of deal. What is impressive, is wh...en you have someone talented enough who can pull stories out of their hat and keep everyone entertained while the logistics are finalized in the background. Thank you, Walt -- you really rocked it today!
Atlanta's Journey for Civil Rights was experienced by two groups from Porsche Cars North America today. With the elections upon us, there was more than the usual conversation about voter suppression. One guest from the UK said he was shocked to learn how long people had to wait to vote in America. He was surprised further when we mentioned the added burden of lost wages for many Americans because of the long wait times at voting polls in many Black communities. We encourage our guests to watch a HBO documentary called "All In." The show dives into the history of voter suppression in the US and what voter suppression looks like today. We hope you'll tune in to see it too! We also hope you will join us on our Atlanta's Journey for Civil Rights soon. Book your tour at www.biketoursatl.com.
Our Atlanta's Journey for Civil Rights tour explores some thought-provoking topics at the State Capitol building. We are standing in front of the General John Brown Gordon statue which was erected the year following Atlanta's 1906 Race Riot. Following the end of the Civil War, Gordon served as the Grand Dragon to the KKK in Georgia (chapter president, if you will), he was also elected Governor and Senator (2 times). Although he had served as a Statesman during most of his po...st-war career, when his statue was decided on, he would be presented on a horse in his full Confederate regalia. And again, less than a year after 3 days of violent white supremacist aggression against our black citizens in Atlanta. Walt Haber is holding images up to our group today discussing the evolution of the Georgia flag. The Confederate symbol became a part of our GA flag in 1956. This was in response to the Supreme Court ruling of Brown vs. the Board of Education, which was the ruling that would force integration of our schools. Our GA legislators decided to adopt the symbol used by the KKK to demonstrate their disapproval. This tour has served as an incredible platform for our corporate guests to explore provocative conversations they would typically have no opportunity to discuss. I commend Porsche and their leadership for encouraging all their staff to take advantage of this company outing. I know I speak for my entire staff when I say we are grateful and honored for the opportunity to share the stories with our guests. It was a really good day at BTA.
Look who's back in the saddle after neck surgery! Thank you Tim for being great and for continuing to show visitors so many reasons why Atlanta and Georgia should be on everybody's mind!
Another great day spent with a team from Porsche North America. The staff at BTA has had the honor to share stories of Atlanta's Journey for Civil Rights over the last couple of months with different teams from the Atlanta headquarters. We have also added this tour to our regular schedule and hope you will come out and see why this international company believes this is an important experience for their staff during these challenging times. This tour rolls every Sunday starting in October. Find our more and book your tour at www.biketoursatl.com.

This past weekend, Bicycle Tours of Atlanta hosted the Porsche Cars North America’s Executive Team along with several employees for a 3-hour bicycle event, Atlanta’s Journey for Civil Rights (AJCR). The CEO and his family have been loyal customers of BTA since 2017. Last year they did the AJCR tour for a family birthday celebration. Klaus Zellmer said the experience was very eye-opening and moving. He felt his Executive Team would benefit from taking the tour while creating a safe space for open dialogue with employees. It was an incredible experience for the BTA team as well.
