I love my little shop in the mountains - I liken it to a cave - full of knowledge, of course, but what I love the most is the never ending show of multiple realities and universals smashing together in often simple ironic vignettes of human occupations and mindless meanderings... So a Puerto Rican Family is walking by our building...why do I know, or think I know, or assume...because I profile...I am good at it and if you can't be honest with the universe you can't know...any...how, a Puerto Rican Family from NEW YORK is walking by our building... little daughter passes one of two drainage holes at the base of our building - points and says, "Look a Mouse Hole!" By standards this mouse could be easily the size of a ground hog and still fit through the pipe inside of the "Mouse Hole" - but I'm just guessing she hasn't seen one of those...Her big sister dances by and points it out to her grandmother - "Look Grandma, can you imagine the size of the rat that comes out of that hole? What would you do if you saw it?" Grandma steps far to the edge of the curb before passing the "Rat Hole." ...I didn't say anything, could have, about the size of the snakes that have emerged from that drained area or that the actual purpose of the drain was for water evacuation...It made me happy to live in a place where Rats emerging from holes in a city are not prevalent for a multitude of reasons. Poor City Folk. See more

A woman walks into the Bookstore...She's from Japan and apologized for her difficulty with English as she was from Japan. She apologized with ferver often...as she thanked me for understanding her. She showed me a piece of paper with her on a mission - to raise money - with some jewelry as an added incentive if I were to give her just about anything resembling a donation. I asked what the "Mission" was for. It was to bring answers concerning God to people in America! She than...ked me twelve times for having been polite in understanding her and having no offering, otherwise. As she left she thanked me even after the door had closed...She was very pleasant. Then, I looked down at my work - I am reconcilling sales made - there is a placard with the next book. It's title; "Search For God in America." And the search continues for all of us I guess... Then, I move a stack of books, on top of which is; "The God That Failed," a beautiful collection of stories from 1910 - 1920s era Ex-Communists who eschewed the ritualistic nonsense of a horrible idea called "Communism." Finally, a friend of mine from a long way back, asked the fervent questions of a man in the beginning stages of thinking about himself in the scope of the big universal(s)...a spiritual quest awaits if he wants to move past the prefacing of how he should consider himself - I interpreted some definitions he was using - and felt comfortable defining for him, or redefining, as it were, what "a spiritual person is." Points made to me long, long time ago by such literary giants as Joseph Campbell, and products like "Parabola" magazine - or pieces like "God in the Western World." All of which are available for sale today and as often as I can have them in my Bookstore! Is there a theme to today!!?? See more

OK, I am sure you have heard of "Bats in the Belfrey" or "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". Well neither of those were our problem today. Our store was the sight of interest to visitors in Blue Ridge today. Noticing people stopping in front of our store, congregating and taking pictures, our excitement increased. We went outside to greet them and possibly sign autographs only to hear they were upset with us. One gentleman started his conversation with me by saying "Don't you think it is a little dangerous to treat animals this way?" Not knowing what in the world he was talking about...I looked up to the roof. Now I ask you... How would you identify two dogs on the roof staring down like two little gargoyles?

Excellent! 99 days into a budgeted, absolutist campaign for a new road and sidewalks, full of guarantees and hostility inducing arguments between council members; for and against (each other?); some with little to no interest in the business that may have happened; this brand new road and sidewalk project that will "be finished in 120 days," is now fully ONE FIFTH of the way FINISHED! -- Great Wisdom can be found in our Bookstore! The kind that defines words like "budget," "absolute," and "guarantee," and tells great tales of Southern Cities exploring problems of growth and new economic potential mixed with "Good 'Ole Boy -or- GAL politics! Ain't Life Grand! Massive book collections last year obtained - great new Historical pieces for sale! Get the History you need before you recreate it !!!
