If you have a muscadine vine that isn't producing any grapes, you probably have a variety that only bears female flowers. Plant a self-fertile variety (that has both male and female flowering parts) nearby for pollination and your old vine will start producing fruit. We have over 15 varieties of self-fertile varieties to choose from. Check it out at www.bottomsnursery.com
Happy New Year!!!
Merry Christmas from everyone at Bottoms Nursery!
When your bare root fruit trees arrive, soak the roots in a tub of water for a few hours to give them a good drink before planting. Here is a helpful link on how to plant your bare root fruit tree. https://j.mp/2JDMz6C
It is best to have the soil prepared and ready for planting your fruit trees before they arrive. Add the recommended lime and phosphorous amounts per your soil test results, but don't add Nitrogen or Potassium at Fall/Winter planting. Lime should be incorporated into the soil in a 10ft x 10ft area for each tree.
Happy Halloween!

Muscadine grape seeds have as much (and even more) nutritional value than the sweet pulp itself. The seeds are beneficial for cancer prevention, cardiovascular health, and antioxidants- followed by the skin, then the pulp.

When planning your blueberry beds for a Fall plant order, remember that you need at least 2 varieties of blueberries (within the same group: Rabbiteye or Southern Highbush) for the best fruit set. Also, Rabbiteye bushes are planted 5 to 6 feet apart in the row with 12 feet between rows, and Southern Highbushes are planted 4 feet apart in the row with 10 feet between rows.
Here's a quick guide to help you with planning your row of blackberries: -Blackberries like a soil pH of 6.0-6.5 -Erect varieties are spaced 3 feet apart in the row, 10-12 feet between rows.... -Semi-erect/ Trailing varieties are spaced 6 feet apart in the row, same space between rows. -15 plants is enough to supply an average family of 4 with fresh berries and a few desserts.
You can trust Bottoms Nursery to provide you with great quality plants for your home orchard. A plant with a healthy root system will grow faster and produce fruit faster. Don't just buy for size- buy for quality this Fall. Shop online at https://j.mp/2RsraCe
Spiderwebs this time of year can be a real nuisance -giving us the "creeps" every time we walk into them. But spiders are actually really good garden friends, especially the hunting spiders that don't spin webs. They sneak around catching bad insect pests like aphids, army worms, spider mites, grasshoppers, thrips and more.
