Happy National Black Women Physicians Day! Rebecca Lee Crumpler (Feb. 8, 1831March 9, 1895) was the first Black woman to earn a medical degree and practice medicine as a physician in the United States. She was also the first Black woman to author a medical text, "A Book of Medical Discourses," which was published in 1883. I am because she was...... Salute a mocha woman physician today! #PlasticSurgery #ILookLikeASurgeon #Trailblazer #DoctorMom #RebeccaCrumpler #NBWPD #WeAreCrumpler

So my son decided to take part in the #bussitchallenge and bust his chin open when he tripped and fell last night. Dr. Mommy swooped in to save the day. A facial trauma exam and few tears later he’s stitched up and back to bouncing off the walls. Shout out to hubby who stepped in as my assistant by providing excellent distraction techniques. ... I’m grateful for my talents that have managed to keep us out of the ER. Do you have an adequate first aid kit at home in case of an emergency? You may not be to sew a cut up, but do you have bandaids, gauze or antibiotic ointment/antiseptics to keep wounds clean until you can get further treatment? #plasticsurgery #WoundCare #FirstAid #BustChin #DoctorMom #SuturingSkills

To be young with a cancer diagnosis... Is to question whether or not you’ve lived enough or too little. Whether you’ve loved enough, shared enough, or learned enough.... Whether you’re dreams will be fulfilled or cut short. Whether you are strong enough to fight and blessed enough to live. I was diagnosed at the of age 26 when I was just starting my intern year of residency. My entire life and career lay ahead of me. I was blessed with the choice to still work and complete my training. I’m fortunate enough to still be here with a successful career, growing family and good health. @chadwickboseman was diagnosed in the prime of his career and chose to continue to pursue his dreams. He was blessed with the strength to endure procedures and treatments while entertaining the world. May his soul Rest In Peace and his legacy live on. Both of us lived our dreams, but his life was cut short. This isn’t mean to encourage people to fight through treatments, because everyone isn’t able or desires to do so. It’s to remember not to take your health for granted. Young and healthy people aren’t exempt from the dreaded C-word. You can do everything you think is right and still have to fight for your life. Good health is a privilege that we must be grateful for every day. Live your dreams. Honor your health. #CancerSucks #ChadwickBoseman #ColonCancer #Lymphoma #Survivor #CancerSurvivor #Testimony #PlasticSurgery

Done! I early voted today in 10 minutes and 10 seconds (idea to time myself stolen from @the_mrs_mcreynolds ). We’re not going to talk about how I arrived 5 minutes before they closed! . I didn’t even know the polls were open on the weekend until @ginaanne13 said so. Next weekend is the last weekend you can vote early. Check the Georgia My Voter page to see where to go and what the hours are for your county. #EarlyVoter #PostThePeach #CivicDuty #PlasticSurgery #BreastBodyBeauty

Today is the start of #BreastCancerAwareness month. I am so grateful that numerous women have trusted me to help them along their reconstructive journey. This woman is one of my favorite patients (I have a lot of favs). The strength of women like her is so admirable. She just celebrated her 1 year cancerversary and is doing amazing! She had an emotional journey with tears at many of her visits. At this visit she had bright beaming eyes with confidence and had me in tears when she came bearing gifts for me. A custom made mask, flowers and a card. #ILoveMyPatients #DIEPFlap #BreastBodyBeauty #WhereDreamsReallyCanComeTrue #BreastCancer #CancerSucks #BreastReconstruction #PlasticSurgery #BRADay #MicroSurgeon #FemalePlasticSurgeon

Who thinks the image on the left is unprofessional? The Journal of Vascular Surgery that’s who! They had the audacity to publish an article and conclude that physicians were considered unprofessional if seen on their personal social media accounts... 1. Wearing a bikini (shirtless men weren’t considered unprofessional ) or provocative Halloween costume #Sexism... 2. Drinking alcoholic beverages 3. Expressing political views None of that social media behavior was happening in a hospital or medical office. It was on PERSONAL social media accounts that three of the authors SPIED on by creating fake profiles! You can’t make this stuff up! The sexism and judgement was very real in this article. It has since been retracted due to the backlash over the past couple of days. I’m even more appalled that a woman was one of the featured authors and thought it was a good idea. What a waste of resources and time! Thank you to @daniellebelardomd for brining attention to this issue. Listen here... I can wear scrubs and a swimsuit. I can hold a drink and a scalpel. I can have an opinion about controversial topics and also debate with the best on the standard of care for patients. Doctors are human too. We have personal lives and families. We enjoy the same recreational activities as the general public. We are already heavily criticized for the way we practice medicine. Keep the scrutiny out of our personal lives that has nothing to do with our careers. Stop policing the bodies of women! And for God’s sake arrest the police officers that murdered Breonna Taylor!!! #MedBikini #SexismInMedicine #ScrubsOnScrubsOff #UnconsciousBias #ConsciousBias #RepresentationMatters #Multifaceted #PourUpDrink #misogyny #discrimination

Something amazing happened yesterday! The #ShareTheMedicalMic campaign spearheaded by @drreneeparo @drlaurenpowell @arghavansallesmd @drjenniferchung tasked 40 non-black physicians with loaning their IG accounts to 40 black physicians in order to amplify their voices. It was truly inspiring. I took over the account of awesome anesthesiologist @magnoliaprintzmd and shared my experiences with her followers. We are teaming up again tomorrow, July 24th at 2pm EST on IG Live to re...cap this movement. Take a late lunch and join us! I was also one of several black plastic surgeons featured in @plasticsurgeryasps publication, Plastic Surgery News, in an article highlighting the need for increasing diversity in the field of #plasticsurgery As the first black woman to be accepted to the plastic surgery residency at @bcmhouston @bcmprs I know that #RepresentationMatters when striving to achieve your goals. It was an honor to have contributed. I hope that medical students and residents are able to benefit from our contributions and influence. #DiversityAndInclusion #BreastBodyBeauty #PlasticSurgery #WhatADoctorLooksLike #ILookLikeASurgeon #DoctorMom #MeharryMade @ Dr. Aisha Baron- Breast Body Beauty PRS

Tune in tonight at 8pm EST to @hellotittie for a LIVE interview with me as their featured guest for Tittie Talk Tuesdays. You all know I’m not too fond of the T-word (mainly in a professional setting ), but @hellotittie is a women’s empowerment organization that is doing big things, so I had to participate. #PlasticSurgery #WomensEmpowerment #IGLive
