At the recent Brenau faculty meeting big news was announced! The COE's own Dr. Brandi Worsham and Dr. Kelley Brock-Simmons were surprised to learn they were named this years winner of the Ann Austin Excellence in Teaching Award and the Vulcan Excellence in Teaching and Campus Leadership Award, respectfully. Dr. Worsham was honored with the Ann Austin Outstanding Faculty Award for "demonstrating and fostering outstanding teaching, enhancing teaching, and supporting other fa...culty in the pursuit of excellence" Dr. Brock-Simmons was honored with the Vulcan Award for "teaching excellence and outstanding leadership and demonstrates an exceptional commitment to teaching and academic advising to nurture a positive academic climate that demonstrates leadership to benefit faculty and students". Collectively, Dr's Worsham and Brock-Simmons report they are "...humbled and honored to be recognized and to be part of a great team of educators within the COE as well as to be able to work with such amazing students!" Below, we caught up with the two of them on campus (a rarity to find them both on campus at the same time during these days), and snapped a couple of informal pictures. Congratulations to Dr. Worsham and Dr. Brock-Simmons and way to represent the College of Education!

Congratulations to, now, doctoral CANDIDATE, Jennifer Clark! Jennifer successfully defended her dissertation proposal yesterday! Jennifer says, "My recommendation for those preparing for a proposal defense is to PREPARE PREPARE PREPARE. Listen to your committee while in the process of preparing. Bounce ideas off of them frequently and keep communicating with them. Practice your proposal presentation over and over and over. Step away from it when you need to step away, then come back with a rested lens and mind. You can do it!" Way to go Jennifer! We are all proud of you!

This week the College of Education experienced, and survived, our reaccreditation visit by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. We are proud to share with our Facebook community that after two years of preparing, our hard work paid off! The review team determined we met or exceeded all of the standards that make us an exceptional teacher preparation program in the state of Georgia. As part of our introduction session to the review team (and with the help of Gefry... Ventura and A.J.Reynolds), we used this super short audio file to introduce our presenters....we told the review team we "approached the task with the strength of an athlete training for a marathon while hitting all of the short term goals we needed to meet to ensure a winning review". Check out this short clip which was embedded into our presentation.....and you will see why we used this analogy! You may even recognize some people! PS. We don't own the rights to the music! :) https://drive.google.com//1B4HV-ocx21Ij7tkjZHfA5Lq-2/view

Despite having to cancel the Real Interactive Summer Learning Experience (RISE) program's on-ground activities because of COVID-19, RISE's volunteers and partne...rs still found ways to battle summer learning-loss. The team distributed backpacks full of school supplies, books, at-home craft kits (donated by Home Depot) and hundreds of pounds of fruits and vegetables from the Georgia Mountain Food Bank, all at no cost to children and families. They also provided one-on-one mentoring sessions for four weeks to help support children directly. The parents were so excited that they were able to get something educational for their children to do at home instead of being on screens all the time, said Maria Calkins from Gainesville Housing Authority. Thank you to our Brenau educators, students and other RISE partners like Gainesville City School System, United Way of Hall County, the Jackson EMC Foundation, Georgia Wireless Association and Rotary Club of Braselton.
