Tuesday morning inspiration from the one and only Mary Oliver.
So excited that Nurture Community Support group will resume in just a few weeks! This group is open to all moms with babies in their first year. We meet at Daffin Park on Saturday mornings starting October 9 our group is drop-in and donation-based. I've been offering this group for going on 4 years now and it never ceases to amaze me what a wonderful community we're able to create together, where women feel connected, supported, seen, and heard in a safe and non-judgmental space. First-timers and experienced parents are welcome. Please spread the word and come on out to find your crew of mamas! We'd love to see you.
Thanks to The Tiny Beet Pediatrics w/ Dr. Rivera-Caudill for offering this FREE vaccine drive on Wilmington Island TOMORROW! Please, people. Care for yourself, your family, your community.
Loving this illustration from mosaiceye. Rage and anger are totally essential emotions that all humans feel and process. But we don't typically learn how to do that in healthy, productive ways. What have you found helps you to express and move through rage?
I was so super honored to have this chat about maternal mental health, therapy, parenthood, and everything in between with The Family Thrive podcast. Feel free to listen below! Audra and Justin are doing awesome and essential work building out a space for families to get support, info, and resources at all phases and stages of parenting. Be sure to check out their FB and their app we are so lucky to have them holding this space online and in Savannah too.
Excited to share this FB Live chat with Anne Kuhlke-Lee, LPC! Today at noon. Tune in then or check back to watch the recording. Important information for any new or expectant mamas!
Super excited to announce the return of the Nurture postpartum support group on March 20! We will be meeting outdoors at Daffin Park to ensure safety and social distancing. Please spread the word! All mamas with babies in their first year are welcome. This group is compassionate, judgment-free, and donation-based. Also! Please share and join a new private group for local mamas seeking connection, community, and support in an online space: Nurture Community Support It's been a looooong year. Can't wait to see you all.
Two wonderful *no-cost* groups offered by Nina Kennedy, LMFT! Such an incredible resource for our community.
So this winter I got to fulfill my longtime dream of doing a 200-hour yoga teacher training. And thanks to the unintended gifts of the pandemic, I got to train with one of my fave yoga studios in Brooklyn (via Zoom!), the amazing Abhaya Yoga, helmed by the amazing Tara Glazier Yoga. It was such an incredible experience, it's hard to know how to describe it but I'm endlessly grateful for the opportunity and for learning new ways to incorporate yoga into my life, and, hopefully soon, into my work!
"We like to scold our mothers for their wrong actions, not least because of how terrifyingly motherhood is about women having power, taking charge, not least because of how woefully ill-equipped or unwilling just about anyone else in our society is at trying to help." Most definitely YES. And also, free Britney.
Attention, mamas who have given birth in Savannah in the past 5 years! Please take a few moments to complete this anonymous survey. We want to hear from you!
"We have learned that when people ask how any of us are doing, and when they really listen to the answer, with an open heart and mind, the load of grief often b...ecomes lighter for all of us." How are you? We honestly want to know. #MaternalMentalHealth #MMHMatters #Miscarriage #PregnancyLoss #1in4 #Grief #Postpartum #Pregnancy #Depression #Trauma #Recovery #COVID19 #SupportWomen #SpeakTheSecret #SavannahMoms #MMHCS #ListenToMoms

Undoing shame is probably one of the most common themes in therapy. So often when we struggle with depression, anxiety, or trauma, we find shame at the deep core of those experiences. Learning how to challenge that shame is an essential part of our healing, as individuals and as a society. Thanks to Center for Trauma and Embodiment for this reminder from the inimitable bell hooks.

Healing is one of those words that gets spoken so often it sometimes seems to have lost any meaning. I can get behind this re-definition 100%.
Hope is golden keep it up.

Self-care is political. Caring for your body, heart, and mind are necessary practices if you want to show up for, care for, and support others. Be the change!
Cultivating the ability to sit between two opposing experiences or emotions is often so central to the therapy process. I love so much working with clients to step into and through these murky spaces. It's uncomfortable and messy, painful and awkward, and it's usually where the work gets done. : IG @minaa_b
Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Do not become bitter or hostile. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble. We will find a way to make a way out of no way. -Rep. John Lewis
Feeling so filled up and fed by this workshop on integrating self-compassion with Meyleen Velasquez. As we draw what we want self-compassion to look like, I'm thinking about how to bring this focus more fully to my own clients. There might be more markers in our future. #PSIVirtual2020
Awesome session at the Postpartum Support International's annual conference with Divya Kumar on racism and microaggressions in perinatal groups. Thank you so much, Divya! #PSIVirtual2020
