Today’s test chassis. Year: 2008 Make: Infiniti Model: g37... Engine: 3.7 liter VQ37HR Trans: Six Speed Manual Mods: Test pipes, AEM intakes Notes: baseline pull was done before connecting to UpRev and doing a datalog. This was very interesting as the motor was running open loop. Engine restrictions: factory exhaust with and after market muffler welded in. The diameter of the factory system is the largest restriction currently on the system. Baseline 248/237wtq Some days things go as planned, other days, we are not so fortunate. We performed a logged pull of ignition timing, cam advance and air/fuel ratio. This is where things got interesting. We found a handful of things out of the ordinary. The downstream oxygen sensors had been cut and the primary oxygen sensors were both unresponsive as they had both failed. Without this critical data, the ecu went to a failsafe mode and cut power substantially by overfueling for safety. Off the rollers she comes and into the shop. Both upstream oxygen sensors were replaced with new Denso units. With the ability to log Air/fuel ratios, we were shocked with the state of the tune. The engine was idling at 20:1 AFR!!!!! Luckily we were able to bring the entire fuel map in check to bring the motor within stoich values. Full throttle was set to 12.8-1. 290whp/240wtq The last gremlin we had to track down as a failing crankshaft position sensor. Under full throttle the motor would throw a false knock signal with incredibly conservative timing. After the engine got up to temperature the rpm signal became spotty. In goes the new Crank position sensor. No more false knock. Hello consistent timing advance! Hello consistent POWER!!!!! 302 WHP 249 WTQ

Today’s test chassis. Year: 2009 Make: Nissan Model: 370z... Engine: 3.7 liter VQ37HR Trans: Six Speed Manual Mods: Test pipes, AEM short ram intakes Notes: We started with a decent baseline pull that almost crested the 300whp mark. 296whp/247wtq This chassis came in with a handful of bolt-ons which definitely increased the baseline significantly over a stock variant Nismo 370z. In stock trim they have been known to Dyno at around 285whp from the factory. With the absence of the catalyst from the exhaust system, this engine was able to evacuate spent gases more fully leading to higher baseline numbers. After cleaning up the fuel table and altering the ignition map for maximum performance, we were able to pick up substantial gains under the curve. Tuning using UpRev we achieved a maximum midrange gain of 21wtq and 22whp, which is fantastic for a non-turbo chassis. The peak numbers don’t tell the whole story here. With the addition of a higher flowing exhaust and a better intake system, this would easily be able to carry the gains into the upper rpms. We are currently limited by the diameter of the factory exhaust system as it’s a restriction above 6500rpms. 304 WHP 262 WTQ
