Celebrating Black Leaders at the Y: Violet P. Henry After holding various executive leadership roles in the Newark and Chicago YMCAs, in 1976, Violet P. Henry became the first woman to be named to a top management position at the Y's national office. Wabash Avenue YMCA in Chicago provided housing as well as job training for community members and is the site of the first convening of what would become the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH). The Association created what is now known as #BlackHistoryMonth. While the Wabash Avenue YMCA is no longer a Y, it is on the National Register of Historic Places, due to its importance to the Black community it served in the early 20th century. : Kautz Family YMCA Archives

Our fleet of buses is ready to be filled and shipped out to the Greater Augusta community! Family YMCA of Greater Augusta is on a mission to ensure no child goes hungry. As COVID-19 cases rise and schools revert to virtual-only learning, we want to ensure no child goes hungry. We will continue providing FREE Blessing Bags with 7 days of shelf-stable meals through June 2021. Bags can be picked up at area YMCA branches every Tuesday, or at YMCA Team Headquarters on Saturdays (1058 Claussen Road, Augusta GA 30907). All month, we are sharing reasons to love the Burke County Y! Today, we are loving swim lessons! Our fun program ensures water safety for everyone in our pools. Swim lessons will resume when our pool reopens this summer! Speak to our aquatics staff for information.
