I just made one of my first original fonts using Calligraphr.com. $10 will get you a copy of it for unlimited personal or commercial use. DM me or email.
I may not be entirely partial in recommending this article, being as I have close relatives and friends in Uncle Sam's employ; but even if I didn't, it's still fascinating background on how our government has used graphic design to further its work over the years.
Warner Bros. Pictures recently redesigned their iconic logo using what's known as the "golden ratio." Here's an explanation of what it is and how it pops up in more places you see every day than you may realize.
This is an interesting article about refreshing a historic brand.
The shocking thing about this article isn't how much has changed; it's how much sadly hasn't.
This guy was one of the most important designers of the 20th century. Even today, you are encountering at least one of his creationsand likely more than oneevery time you buy a Coke, mail a letter or buy fuel for your vehicle.
From STAR TREK TV graphic designer Michael Okuda: SAUL BASS: A LIFE IN DESIGN IN FILM is the definitive study of the iconic graphic designer who not only helped define the art of corporate identity, but was a leading designer of film titles. Bass was also one of my personal design heroes. Sponsored link:
Some insights from one leading practitioner in the field on another. https://eyeondesign.aiga.org/seymour-chwast-on-milton-glas/
A good designera good just about anything, reallynever stops learning. Don't assume you know everything you need to know once you've picked up that college diploma. Technology and the field will leave you in the dust if you do.
Having worked in advertising, I can testify that all too often not just agency leadership but entire staffs have historically been pretty much lily-whiteboth in pigmentation and outlook. This article is proof that there is still work to be done changing that.
This pretty well describes me.
An old art form given a new twist.
We can all use a handy reference to this document, especially these days. Here's one that even young children (and dumbass adults, of whom there seem to be far too many lately) can understand. Bring back civics classes in high school, and use this as a textbook.
I know lots of business owners are struggling to get their businesses back up and running after months of lockdown and lack of clientele due to COVID-19. Their cash flow is low or nonexistent, and revenue is far below normal. I want to be a part of helping them and help myself at the same time. Therefore, I am offering to design email ads, online banners, flyers or whatever you need to promote your business and increase traffic and salesat only $25.00 per hour, half off my normal rate, with a two-hour minimum. A couple of hours and $50 could make all the difference for you and your company or organization. Call me NOW at (770) 861-3041 or message me here to let me know how I can help you!
The designs of these posters are classic examples of the 1930s-1940s Art Deco aesthetic and well worth preserving, as well as honoring a significant time in US history and the best idea we've had since the Declaration of Independence: our glorious National Park System, which has since been copied worldwide. https://www.nytimes.com//ranger-doug-leen-wpa-national-par
Courtesy of a friend. Type geeks will get this.
This is a fun page not only for movie buffs (past and/or present), but also for designers who are hip to the elements of style that defined the particular eras of movie posters represented here. It's also fodder for countless arguments about which well-known actor from the past would have been better at playing a character from a more recent film.
This young lady has a lot of talent. She also has something else in common with me: depression and anxiety, both being treated with therapy and medication.
Have you seen the new limited TV series adaptation of Aldous Huxley's novel BRAVE NEW WORLD on NBCUniversal's Peacock streaming service? I've seen the first three episodes and came up with a cover design for a reissue of the novel to tie in with the show. Amazingly, it doesn't seem any publisher has thought to use the show as a marketing tool...but then, the book has been in print continuously since it first came out in 1931. Let me know if you would like me to design something like this for you!
Microsoft has somehow figured out what will be the ten most in-demand types of worker following the pandemic (whenever that is). Graphic designer just happens to be #10.
Another example of graphic design being mobilized for social and economic good.
