As Chris Pataky from our Denver office says, "When it comes to retirement, consistent and steady wins the race." Early-stage entrepreneurs tend to focus solely on reinvesting back into their business, which makes complete sense. They view a dollar invested into their endeavor as a potentially higher payoff than a dollar sitting in the bank. In the short term, it seems much more exciting than stocks and bonds. What advantage could there possibly be in using traditional retirement channels to plan for your future?

Our clients, Mac and Carol, are a great example of what preparing for a happy retirement looks like. Read about their trip to Kenya and Tanzania and how they made it their goal to travel in retirement in the excerpt below. "My wife and I love to travel so traveling was at the top of our list for what we wanted to do in retirement. With the professional help and guidance of Bryan Rea, our financial advisor, my wife and I have been able to take several fantastic trips since we ...retired, both domestically and overseas. All incredible, all wonderful! All worth investing in our retirement account for many years. The best trip so far was our three-week African safari to Kenya and Tanzania which we took with 9 other friends. Two of those friends were co-workers of mine with whom I used to sit in our company’s break room for 25 years wistfully discussing winning the lottery so we could take an African Safari together with our spouses. As it turned out, we found ourselves all retired at the same time and with traveling funds from our retirement accounts at the same point in our lives. We scheduled the African safari trip together and it turned out to be one of the most memorable times of our lives. Trying to pick a favorite picture to represent that trip was extremely difficult - like trying to pick your favorite child. But I finally decided on the picture my wife took at dusk one day of an elephant herd returning home across the plains in front of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Kilimanjaro was just shyly peaking out from behind some cloud cover that day but it still provided a striking background for the lovely, gentle giants as they marched across the plains. This was just one of many, many memorable sights we saw on this incredible trip. - Please note: Mac and Carol gave us permission to use this photo.
