BLACK ICE LIKELY LATE TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING OVER PORTIONS OF NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA INCLUDING THE ATLANTA METRO Special Weather Statement issued February 15 at 2:58PM EST by NWS Peachtree City GA Rainfall associated with an approaching cold front will be moving through the region this afternoon and evening. As the rain exits the region this evening cold air will filter into the area quickly behind the rainfall. In addition...relative humidity values are expected ...to remain high over night. As a result of the temperatures quickly dropping below freezing and relative humidity values remaining high...many area roads and bridges will not have an opportunity to dry off and subsequently have an opportunity to freeze overnight and into the early AM resulting in areas of black ice. Areas along and north and west of the Interstate 85 corridor have the greatest risk of black ice forming. Counties and communities just to the south and east of Interstate 85 may see some patchy black ice. Across far Northwest GA and the North GA mountains, as the cold front pushes in behind the storm system this evening, rain could change to light freezing rain, sleet or snow. Any accumulations are expected to be very light, however with temperatures falling into the 20s, some roads may become icy from winter precipitation or the refreezing of water on roadways previously mentioned. Persons in these areas should remain alert, monitor the latest conditions and be prepared patchy black ice through the early AM.

SHARE: CAN YOU HELP? We have seen so many posts lately about loved ones in nursing homes even in our area here who have been separated from their loved ones du...e to the pandemic. The videos and stories are heartbreaking Valentines Day is this weekend and it may be too late, but how many in our community would be willing to donate a simple card to the folks in our town at our local nursing homes and long term care facilities? Just a simple card (that’s all we need) with a sweet message to brighten their day and let them know that we in Carroll County are thinking of them, praying for them, and want them to know they are NOT forgotten! You can drop off card donations starting in the morning until 5pm on Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Sheriff’s Office located at 1000 Newnan Road, Carrollton GA 30116. We are trying to provide cards and messages of hope and love to as many seniors in our community who have been affected by COVID-19 and our Deputies have graciously agreed to deliver them and drop them off (from a safe distance ofcourse ). #CarrollCountyGA #SpreadTheLove #WeAreAllInThisTogether

Snow, sleet, and freezing rain are all a possibility during winter weather events in Georgia. The type you see reaching the ground depends on the temperature of the air throughout the atmosphere. #wwpw

A Wind Advisory is in effect for portions of north and west-central Georgia until 4 AM Friday. Gusty winds could cause trees that were weakened by previous storms to be blown down, and a few power outages may result. #gawx

Carroll County, GA Sheriff's Office EMA 13.10.2020

!!Weather Update!! We are experiencing a heavy call volume and reports of numerous trees and power lines down throughout the County. Please stay off the roadway...s during these dangerous conditions unless absolutely necessary as we are fielding several auto accidents as well. Being out unnecessarily creates issues for emergency personnel who are working hard to answer all the calls safely and provide the most efficient service to our citizens as well as clearing roadways of fallen trees. Please stay home until the storm has passed which should be in a couple of hours. See more

Today Carroll County Emergency Management conducted a weather briefing at the Emergency Operations Center attended by local law enforcement agencies, fire depar...tments, power and utility companies, and schools throughout the West Georgia area. The biggest concerns at this time will be wind and rain threats as we are shaded in the dark red area for potential wind gusts up to 60 mph. The timing appears to be between midnight and 7am at this time, however weather conditions can change quickly along with the timing of the storm. Our area is currently under a Tropical Storm Warning and we ask that you began to prepare for this event by ensuring outdoor furniture is secured or put away along with any valuables you may have outside that could be blown away or become a projectile. You may want to also consider charging electronics and have a weather app or radio near by that can keep you updated on the conditions. We also ask that you stay off the roads after midnight if possible as down trees and power lines are the biggest concern until the threat has passed. We will continue to monitor this situation and want you to be sure in knowing that we are prepared and your safety and that of our first responders is our first priority. #BeWeatherAware #BeSafe #CarrollCountyGA
