Carroll County Georgia Fire Rescue 02.11.2020

Each year Carroll County Fire Rescue observes, remembers, and honors those lives lost during the tragic events of September 11, 2001 when our nation came under attack by terrorists who crashed domestic commercial airliners into the World Trade Center’s North Tower at 0846 hours and into the South Tower at 0903 hours. In observance of those lives lost including the 343 fellow Firefighters, our units have been assigned to stage with American Flags draped from each of the bridges which pass over Interstate 20 in Carroll County from the time the first tower was hit until the time the last tower fell at 1028 hours. We appreciate all of our hardworking personnel who never hesitate to participate in this event every year and for their unwavering service to our community. God Bless America and may we NEVER forget!

Today we remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice as we reflect and honor what September 11th means to us. This video highlights the events of September 11th and also features the names of the fallen public safety personnel here in Carroll County that we have lost and mourned for throughout the years. As we normally would gather for a ceremony at the new Public Safety Memorial today here, we will remember and honor those with this video instead as the second Friday in September has been declared Public Safety Day by the Carroll County Board of Commissioners.

A heartfelt and sincere thank you goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Roger and Debbie Leggett for their generous donation of a Weider Workout System to Carroll County Fire Rescue Station 14. The donation was made to Honor their son, Chad Leggett, who was 24 years of age when he passed away from a heat stroke while off duty. Chad worked in Public Safety with Puckett Ambulance and purchased the equipment in preparation of joining the Fire Service in the future. He wanted to follow in hi...s Dad's footsteps of serving in the fire service from the time he was very young, while going on fire calls with his Dad as he served Paulding County Fire Station 5 on Ridge Road. Mr. Leggett stated it is his Honor to be able to pass on Chad's exercise equipment to Station 14 where it can still be used for the benefit of conditioning our Firefighters. Carroll County Fire Rescue is humbled and thankful to Chad and his family, and we will continue to work hard everyday to honor his memory.

Carroll County Fire Rescue Hosts Specialized Farm Medic Training (Carroll County, GA) Over the weekend of Saturday, July 25th & Sunday, July 26th 2020 twenty three (23) members of Carroll County Fire Rescue consisting of fulltime, part-time, and volunteer Firefighters, along with EMT’s and Paramedics participated in a specialized Farm Medic Training course hosted by Carroll County Fire Rescue. The 16 hour course was sponsored by the Georgia Association of Medical Services (GA...EMS) with participation from local Carroll County Agribusinesses including; Carroll County Farm Bureau; President Mr. Lawrence Shadix, Agrimerica; (New Holland equipment dealer, Mr. Sam Duke), Sun South Equipment, and John Deere equipment dealer, Mr. John Denny. The training consisted of 16 hours broken into two- eight hour blocks which included eight hours of classroom instruction conducted by instructors from the Georgia Association of Medical Services (GAEMS) and detailed equipment operations conducted by the local equipment dealers at their facilities on Saturday. The 8 hour field portion of the training was conducted on Sunday at the Carroll County/Carrollton Public Safety Center in Carrollton. This training included hands on training with actual farm & agricultural equipment. The training was divided into various work stations which included removal of victims from a tractor rollover, entanglement from a power take off shaft of a tractor, rescue from underneath a tractor mowing deck (a.k.a.bushhog), and rescue from an engulfment of grain/livestock feed bins and auger systems used on some farms to deliver livestock feeds as well as other products. Deputy Chief Bud Benefield, class coordinator (as well as a farmer himself) said; Agribusiness is a highly important industry to Carroll County which must be protected with Carroll being in the top ten counties for poultry and beef cattle production among Georgia’s 159 counties. Carroll County Fire Rescue is certainly committed to serving our citizens and stands united in our service to the local agribusiness community. We recognize the jobs and economic benefit to our community as a result of agribusiness. Whether it is in the delivery of fire/rescue services during times of crisis or working together with local and state agencies such as those mentioned to provide training, education, and support to fire rescue personnel, we are proud of our relationships with our agribusiness community because without agribusiness the world would have no food, no clothing or shelter. According to the website www.georgia.org/industries/agribusiness Agribusiness is Georgia’s leading industry with over $75 billion in economic impact to the state every year. The state leads the nation in production of chickens, peanuts, pecans, blueberries and rye. Many companies including Pilgrim’s Pride, Chick-fil-A, Coca-Cola and Tyson source their products directly from Georgia farms and operations.

Happy Father’s Day! We appreciate each and every dad who will spend time in a fire station today instead of with their families because they chose to answer the call of duty to be a public servant to this community.

FREE COVID-19 TESTING STARTS NEXT WEEK Carroll County Government is so proud to be a part of the effort to provide free testing for our community starting M...onday! We will be posting daily flyer updates on locations that are placed throughout the county in order to accommodate everyone who wishes to be tested. Carroll County officials are also firm believers that if we are encouraging the citizens to participate, we want to show our community we participate too! Chairman Michelle Morgan traveled to two separate testing sites over recent weeks as the plans came together with our Local Church Leaders to provide FREE testing as she wanted to understand first hand how the testing sites operated. Chairman Morgan was also tested for COVID-19 as she wanted to share her experience in hopes of encouraging others to be tested as well. She advised the test was not painful and was completed quickly and efficiently, and she tested negative. As we move forward with some uncertainty of what the future of this virus holds and with more people having contact with others as they get back to the activities and loved ones they have missed, getting tested could provide peace of mind to you and your loved ones! Get tested, save lives! First test site is Monday, June 8, 2020 at Moore’s Chapel United Methodists Church located at 120 North Park Street, Carrollton GA 30117 from 9 am - 3 pm courtesy of Reverend Edward Landrum. Pre-registration is recommended but not necessary, you can call 1-800-847-4262 or visit https://COVID19.DPH.GA.GOV/ to register for an appointment.

FREE COVID-19 TESTING COMING TO CARROLL COUNTY STARTING NEXT WEEK Dr. Charles Rouse and Dr. Laura Larson, two highly respected medical figures in our comm...unity have been working in concert to assemble a team to join them in the efforts of making free testing available in our community. The support quickly grew to six Churches spread out over the county. When they approached the idea to set up multiple test sites over a two week period with Chairman Michelle Morgan, she reached out to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department and Emergency Management and the planning began. The hopes behind the community wide effort is to assist in getting more people tested and relieve the burden of going to a Hospital or Doctor’s office and paying for a test. The more people tested the more lives can be saved. Some people may not know if they have the virus because they may not exhibit any symptoms. People who are asymptomatic may pass the virus and never know they have it before exposing other individuals. Tim Padgett, Emergency Management Director, stated It is a privilege to participate and assist in this effort to support the Churches efforts to provide a safer and healthier community for everyone. Chairman Morgan and Director Padgett have been working very closely with Major Craig Dodson from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office to ensure the testing sites are prepared with the safest entry and exit strategies for the community to participate and not have to wait in long lines or cause a traffic jam. Major Dodson advised, The Sheriff’s Office is working to provide a clear traffic safety plan to ensure that testing is as safe and efficient as possible. Chairman Morgan has visited several testing sites in recent weeks after the idea developed and even participated in being tested for COVID-19 herself at the site in Coweta County so that she can share her experience with the citizens in hopes that it will make people feel more comfortable getting tested. Chairman Morgan advised, The test was not bad as I anticipated and I learned so much from visiting the testing sites and participating in having the test performed. I knew it was a must for Carroll County and I thank Dr. Rouse, Dr. Larson, and the Churches for spearheading this community wide effort. The goal is to not just slow the spread, but to stop the spread by continuing to test, educate, and hoping those who test positive will quarantine to keep others safe so together we can beat this virus. We are so lucky to have a group of respected Church leaders who have come together to plan and gather support for their efforts. As you may have seen in the early stages of COVID-19 places of Worship were linked to hot spots and as many Churches plan to move towards gathering together again while taking extra steps to ensure everyone’s safety, the congregations have all agreed they will feel safer and healthier walking into a Worship Service knowing they took the extra step to get tested. The idea branched off into not just testing the congregations but extended the effort community wide. Carroll County is so lucky to have such strong spiritually leaders who not only look out and pray for their congregations but also extend their generosity beyond to our citizens and community as a whole.
