2020. I can't think of a better time to study the Bhagavad Gita, estimated to have been written around the 3rd century BCE. Bhagavad Gita means The Song of the Blessed One, and it is more of a poem than a book. This ancient text is age-less and addresses many of the issues we are all dealing with this year: despair, anxiety, helplessness, grief, attachment and conflict. To quote Rolf Sovik, PsyD (Himalayan Institute), How are we to transcend violence in the midst of vio...lent times?. I’m planning to do an in-depth study of the Bhagavad Gita in September. It will be the main focus of my personal yoga practice. If you would like to join me, please let me know. I am not certain how to facilitate it, as conversations are difficult over Zoom. Once I know how many of us will be involved, I’ll figure out the details of how, where, what days, what times, etc. There are many translations, but I will be using one by Stephen Mitchell. I’ll attach a link to the book on Amazon. I encourage you to get your book soon and read the introduction, which is pretty long and rich with insight on understanding the text. If you’ve never read the Bhagavad Gita, I’m excited to share it with you! If you have read it, then you already understand how much of its wisdom you’re able to absorb with each reading. I’ve had this copy for 10 years, and as I thumb through the introduction to this book, I smile to see the different colors of ink representing all the times I’ve read it and how, each time, a different passage clicks in my understanding. Most consider the main message of the poem to be a lesson on releasing the fruits of action. As I am in the process of learning to Let Go, it’s the perfect time for this practice of non-attachment. I invite you to join me on this journey of yoga. ~Namaste Johnna Langlo https://www.amazon.com/Bhagavad-Gita-Translati//0609810340

We're heading into our last week of classes. I know I haven't posted much lately. It's been a whirlwind of emotions! Also, I've been physically swamped moving out of the studio and figuring out where to put everything! I am holding on to our main yoga props, in hopes that we will use them again. I am trying to sell some of the things that are too hard to store or that I don't feel the need to hang on to. Please visit my group page to see what I'm selling, and PLEASE b...uy stuff! haha. My dining room is full of stuff! I tried to price to sell, but feel free to negotiate. https://www.facebook.com/groups/969766533495352/?epa=SEARCH_BOX I know this last week will be sentimental to us all. I cry pretty easily when I teach yoga anyway, but I'll try to behave this week! I know I have not made a statement on what is to come. I plan to use the rest of August to clear away the physical "stuff". Then I plan to dedicate September to my own practice. My mental and emotional yoga practice of being in this moment: right here, right now. Not living in the past (our amazing years at CYC) and not living in the future (anxiety and planning for what is to come next). Because this practice is SO important to me, I am not able to offer you an idea of what to expect from CYC in the future. To all of you who've I've spoken with about this, thank you so much for being supportive and understanding. I do have one idea for September. It's something I've wanted to do ever since this whole quarantine thing started. I am considering a study group/ book club for the Bhagavad Gita. If ever the lessons from that book are applicable to our times, it is now. If you are interested, please post in the comments or message me. So again, let's connect this last week and practice our yoga together! Thank you for your support by buying my stuff and for dropping in to classes! Namaste~ With love, Johnna Langlo

One last handstand before I walk out and close the studio door behind me. This space holds so much of my heart and soul within its walls. In 2015, it was the perfect location to create and grow Carrollton Yoga Center. We all felt it; the sacred energy in that space. The moment you walked in, the outside world dissolved. You’d inhale deeply, then breathe out with a sigh, visibly becoming more relaxed. But I fell in love with this little studio many years before opening a...Continue reading

I am so thrilled to announce that we are transferring our studio software to fitDEGREE! We’ve been with MindBody Online for over 5 years and have wanted to switch for awhile. When I started hearing about how quickly fitDEGREE integrated links to online classes into their software, I knew this was the perfect time to switch and the right software company for our studio. If you're an existing student, we've already moved your account info over. Visit our website for instructions on accessing your account. If you're new to CYC, you can use this link to create an account. https://www.carrolltonyogacenter.com/

It is with great sadness that I must announce the closure of our brick and mortar yoga center. At CYC, we often talk about the concepts of attachment and impermanence. It’s true, I feel such attachment to the space we’ve created together, and I know you do too. Change is hard. It’s human nature to fight against it. Yet, we know nothing is permanent. Today I have to practice acceptance of impermanence and release my attachment to our physical studio. I am grieving the loss of ...our sacred space where we’ve met together for 5 and a half years. I believe it’s healthy to feel sadness, loss, grief. Without them, how would we measure joy, pleasure, happiness? The movie reel in my mind contains endless clips of our time at the studio. Sometimes I laugh, sometimes I cry, but always I am thankful. I plan to use September to rest my body, mind and spirit. I find myself dreaming of the next phase, plans for future possibilities. However, I want to stop the busy cycle of thoughts and anxieties and allow myself to return to the practice of yoga. Which is not in the past. It’s not even in the future. It is only right now. Perhaps you’ve been in class when I’ve recited my personal mantra, passed down from one of my favorite teachers. Let’s remember it together now: Breathing in, I calm body and mind. Breathing out, I smile. Dwelling in the present moment, I know this is the only moment. ~Thich Nhat Hanh We will continue to offer VIRTUAL classes throughout August. There will be no classes in September. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support throughout the years, and especially through these past few months. The light in me sees and honors the light in you. ~Namaste~ Johnna Langlo

PROPS ORDERS ARE DUE TONIGHT BY 10PM We'll be placing the orders for your props first thing in the morning, so we wanted to remind you to get your orders in tonight. In response to a question from one of you, we wanted to clarify that the props we are selling are brand new; they are not used props from the studio. We are making plans for an eventual re-opening of the studio. One safety measure will be to not provide shared props for awhile. We are also selling each of those items individually, yoga bags to help you carry it all and high quality yoga mats. *NOTE: we are sold out of the JadeYoga Fusion mats, and they are currently on backorder. Prop Kits for Sale! **EDITED TO CLARIFY: The props will be brand new, not formally used. We are keeping all our studio props for future use! We miss seeing you in person, but being together in our online classes has been such a wonderful lifeboat. We do not plan to re-open the studio space in the immediate future, but we are looking ahead and making plans for that time. As we all continue to learn a new "normal", we will need to adjust to different habits and procedures. ...When we re-open, we will not be providing shared props and mats. There is no practical way to disinfect them, and your well-being is our priority. So, we've put together a "Yoga Prop Kit" and discounted it for our CYC students. Each kit contains one yoga bolster, one D-ring strap, one yoga blanket and two blocks for only $79. We will also offer these props individually, for those of you who already have part of the kit. We also encourage you to buy a yoga mat. We're offering our 3 favorite mats at a 10% discount, 15% for our Autopay Passport members. We know all of this will be a lot to carry to and from class, so we've picked out two yoga bags that should fit your mat, blanket, blocks and strap. These props will make your home practice more comfortable as we continue to provide online classes, and they will certainly help keep everyone safe and healthy when we return to the studio. Visit our website to view our mats and carriers. https://www.carrolltonyogacenter.com/yoga-prop-kit.html Local Pickup Only. To order, email Johnna at [email protected]. *Please order by Monday, May 4th at 10pm Thank you for your continued support. Johnna and the CYC Team
